Houston,Texas – Loyal and longtime fans of the Red Cat Jazz Festival have spoken loudly andclearly and organizers have reacted to their wishes, by rescheduling and relocating the 7th annual event. The musical extravaganza, originally scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-28, 2017) at Texas City’s Mall of the Mainland, will now be held September 29 - October 1, 2017, at Sylvan Beach in La Porte, Texas.
Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society Founder, Sam Pink says, “We thank the fans and the artists who show up year after year. Our goal is to continue to increase this remarkable bond of friendship we share through the music, education and memorable moments during the festival.”
The festival’s incredible line-up will consist of performances by some of the biggest names in jazz, including Grammy winners Kirk Whalum & Maurice Brown, Emmy Award winning bassist La La Wilson, legendary funk musician Ronnie Laws, incomparable saxophonists Mike Phillips, Marion Meadows, Theresa Grayson, Elan Trotman, flutist Althea Rene’, trumpeter Joey Sommerville, violinist Michael Ward, and introducing one of the jazz world’s newest stars, saxophonist Mike Hamilton.
In addition to the phenomenal music, jazz saxophonist Mike Phillips will host a Friday Celebrity Golf Tournament at the South Shore Harbour Golf Club in League City and a Sunday morning gospel brunch will pay tribute to American veterans at Sylvan Beach.
We thank our returning sponsors, Associated Credit Union of Texas and HEB, and our first time sponsor, Lasting Impression Dental, for providing financial fuel to keep the festival moving forward. We also thank our amazing team of volunteers and community for your welcoming embrace of festival artists and fans year after year.
The Red Cat Jazz Festival benefits two dynamic nonprofits. The Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society and World Youth Foundation have collaborated this year to provide art education, scholarships, and musical instruments to young musicians.
