2017 Red Cat La Porte Jazz Festival postponed due to hurricanes

Due to the catastrophic impact of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the Red Cat La Porte Jazz Festival has been postponed.

The festival, which was scheduled for Sept. 29-Oct. 1 on the grounds of Sylvan Beach Park in La Porte., will be rescheduled to a later date.

“The catastrophes of Harvey and Irma have affected a great deal of our community,” said festival founder Sam Pink. “We feel that it is in the best interest of all involved to concentrate on the recovery, and to reschedule to another awesome weekend.”

Festival-goers can expect to see a spectacular line-up of artists at the rescheduled event on Galveston Bay. The new dates and times will be announced in the coming weeks.

The festival celebrates the Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society’s seventh year as one of the most coveted and highly anticipated outdoor jazz music events in the Houston/Galveston Bay area. Last year’s festival took place at Moody Gardens in Galveston.

Founded in 2012, the jazz preservation society provides avenues to experience jazz through the creative productions of the Red Cat Jazz Festival Series, Rising Star Talent Competition and S.T.E.A.M. educational programs.

The Rising Star Talent Competition offers high school students the chance to showcase their talents. The Jazz Preservation Society also produces affordable concert events, free educational seminars for young musicians, and supports music programs in Houston-area schools.

Last year, the nonprofit organization awarded scholarships to ten students at Houston Community College.
