TEXAS QUEST - MARCH 18th or 25th 2023 - in the works.

What is known is every effort will be made to make this happen, What is not known just yet is the how many race options will be offered.

And so few questions - 1. Who is in for sprint 2-4 hours limited navigation if any... Who is in for a 6-8 hour with a good serving of navigation, Who really really wants a 12,18, or 24 hour race.

Location and limited camp sites have been reserved but we won't open registration until final permits are in hand.

Updates as we have them.

Wade

Hey, all Huntsville Hammer will not happen this November. Circumstances with caring for family during covid took a toll on me earlier this year at crucial time for permitting the race. I really enjoy putting on this race and will be posting soon plans for this and other events. Thank you all for your interest in the Huntsville Hammer, Texas Adventure Racing and Races.

Hey all the Huntsville Hammer is being postponed – or skipped until next year. I have very much enjoyed hosting the race for over 10 years with as few as twenty or as many as two hundred racers. This year with all the interest it would likely have been a packed house. Work and family illnesses have sadly gotten in my way to do what was needed to host the race. Plans are to team up with others so there will be redundancy and the race can be held regardless in the future. I look forward to seeing you all on the next planned race. So look for a race late winter or early spring and a hammer in 2022.

We are looking good for the HUNTSVILLE HAMMER NOV 14TH 2020 - now 6 day out. Decent weather report ATM if not a bit warm. We have lost a few racers do to last minute training injuries and have keep the field full with those on the wait list. Prepare, be safe and - GET A DAY PASS NOW AM or PM. The park requires all park guests to get a pass ONLINE you will either print it out of have the e-mail on your phone when done. This will help getting the influx of racers through the gate early in the morning. :) Look for a Pre-race e-mail with parking and other instructions in the next day or three.

DAY PASS NEEDED TO ENTER THE PARK -

Please remember to get a day pass for your car before race day - today would be a good day to do it. :)

Some are finding camping available as they register for a day pass. Just in case you care to camp Friday and or Saturday.

Please note the action items at the bottom of post. ( get a day pass).

Please note the action items at the bottom of post. ( get a day pass).

NOTE ALL RACE TEAMS _ Please all teams - each car load needs to get a day pass for entry into the park. You can do this on Texas Parks and Wildlife web site. Your day pass can be for AM or PM of race day. They are limiting entry into the park and want as little contact with racers, campers, and day use folk... So get on line and get a pass for each car load. Other news we have room for 7 tents 2 people each if you care to camp Friday night or Saturday. An e-mail will be going out in a day or three with additional information about race day. Now we have packed the race with as many racers as the State will allow this year up are taking names incase anyone needs to drop we can replace you. :) Competition is weighty and gearing up for the day. Here is a look at the Sprint teams -

and teams with a pr***en now have their own Cat.

The 2020 November 14th race is FULL - This is a wait list in the chance space opens ( teams drop out before race day ). You will not be charged unless a space becomes available and you contacted and can still race yourself.

10/22/2020

The Huntsville Hammer November 14th 2020 is full to capacity for this year and so registration is closed. HOWEVER - If you would like to be put on a "wait list" in case we have a team drop please follow the link below and register to the wait list. We will contact you if there is an opening. Credit cards will not be charged unless you are given a place, contacted and can still race...

As well we need volunteers for the race. Day of, day before, day after and all time slots.

Again if someone falls ill, feels ill or was out late with a covid19 infected person or party you may drop out of this race and receive a refund - as we don't want anyone to feel compelled to race when not well considering … So we might well have a spot or two open prior to the race.

Hey all – Good news
We have been able to add some canoes for the 6-hour race. All kayaks for 6-hour are spoken for and some have had to find kayak at South West Paddle sports. BUT we now have a few more canoes if you care to rent a canoe. Kayaks and canoes for the sprint and 12-hour race still available.
Only 25 racing spots left after which we will / might start a “back up wait list” in case someone drops before race week.

10/04/2020

Hey all – The Huntsville Hammer Nov 14th 2020 registration is open - http://www.signmeup.com/135219.
Please take note -
Permission for the race during the COVID19 reopening of the state of Texas is in the works and with current events in flux we won’t have a definitive ok until this Thursday. We have two of three needed permissions and waiting on the third. Number of racers allowed might change and the race might be disallowed if conditions change. If the event is not allowed, we will refund the full registration fees.
Racers will be required to keep a 6’ distance from other teams/groups/cohorts and any other park guests and staff. Masks will be required when at the race start or T.A. area. Racers will keep a 15’ distance in T.A. from other teams. If 6’ of distance cannot be maintain from others not in or on your team/group/cohorts anywhere in the park a mask must be worn.
We will be limiting commonly touched surfaces best we can and so you will be required to bring your own Typed II PFD (personal flotation device..) if you are using one of our canoes. You can buy a PDF at Academy or Walmart for $7.49 or use one you have on hand. A water ski vest, fishing or kaya vest – Type II flotation PFDs. PFDs are just hard to sanitize between users so you will need your own. If you bring your own canoe you will need your own PFD and paddles as well of course.
Each team will need to have a bottle of hand sanitizer at their own 10’x10’ TA to clean hands pre and post touching of common surfaces – think Pot-o-Cans, canoe paddles and the like. As well each team will need a spray bottle of sanitizer or box of wipes to clean canoe paddles or any other commonly used item before use.
Teams will need to bring their own food and water as we will not be providing anything that is commonly touched or handed off to kept contact to a minimum.
The State of Texas seems both interested in keeping us safe and healthy but also opening the state for more normal activities. We will post and provide additional information as race day approaches please refer to and read - https://www.dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/
Race day or before If you are ill, feel ill, have a temperature, or have any of the COVID19 symptoms listed in the link above the day of the race you will not be allowed to attend. If you are unable to attend due to illness or being cautious then a full refund will be given.
I love Huntsville State park and this time of year racing there (or putting on a race in this case). Thank you all for your patience as I have worked through the unique issues with hold a race this year. Here is hoping we have a green light this Thursday. You are welcome to register now and will receive a refund if the race is not allowed this year. And a special thanks to the staff at Huntsville State Park for working with us in giving permission and helping seek the approval on a state and county level.

Two permission received one more to go. We are talking 3 levels here - Park, State, and County.... COVID19 have made this much more of a challenge than decent people need.

Oh and you all will have some COVID19 protocols to follow as a team of Cohorts.

Very close to opening registration. :)

A bit of an update for the Huntsville Hammer November 14th and a Navigation clinic October 10th / Nav Texas.
Still no definitive word from the state as to whether we can hold the race yet (Hammer November 14th..)- but I think this is a good thing as it is yet being considered.
I will hold a Navigation clinic Sunday October 10th on the North side of Houston. It will be two hours of “classroom” instruction but out of doors most likely. This will be followed with a two-hour mock race only on foot for number of CPs. Details for this are being worked out as to location but we have some nice, wooded areas with great trails this side of Houston.
Updates will be posted to Facebook – Texas Adventure Racing and Huntsville Hammer as the details firm up a little. So please check in this week and stay tuned.
Thank you – Wade

The Huntsville Hammer 2020 November 14th - is still in the works but we don't have permission as of yet. It looks like the event would need to be limited to 50 or less racers with a few other keep your distance requirements. I will update this end of next week with more information. Wade
