As a DJ, it can be difficult to grab a pic on the fly in between songs at a ceremony. But this one really stands out. In fact, there's almost a glow surrounding her, and sure, the sun was beginning to set, but when I sent this to miss Halley, she was sure it was her grandmother's spirit surrounding her. I read a Wedding Wire post recently where the bride was aggravated at her DJ. Her first part of frustration was that he didn't have "the bridal march" in his catalog for her ceremony, even though she asked for it at the wedding. At the reception, his laptop had to be restarted several times, causing dead "air" for the guests, and that he was playing "elevator music" for dinner service, and when she asked for something more upbeat, he said he'd play that after cake and toasts. 🧐
Choose your DJ wisely.

What was it that prompted her to book this DJ in the first place? If it was price, unfortunately, you get what you pay for. Do your homework before you book. For me, I already know all of the music my couples want, what versions and when to play them. I know what she wants played for the ceremony, for the cocktail hour and for dinner, and doing a final consultation with the couple guarantees it.

🥂What is a mock exit? Basically it's where the couple opts to push up the sendoff earlier in the timeline specifically for photo purposes. Also called the faux, or "fake" exit, there are, in my opinion as a DJ, only TWO reasons to do it. 💍

#1. 📸The photographer is leaving before the reception ends. Obviously you want some great professional pics of the exit, especially if there are sparklers, confetti or bubbles involved. Couples love seeing this in their wedding photos.

#2. 😳Guests are leaving. If you're down to the last 15-20 guests, then it's another good reason to have this done earlier, especially if your photographer is still there. You want to have as many people as possible in this photo, so time may be of the essence.

NOW. 5 reasons NOT to. 🛑 1) Your photographer is there until the end of the reception. 2) The majority of the guests are still there. 3) Guests may think the party's over and go home after the mock exit. 4) It's an escape for guests to leave the reception. And 5) It can be a party-killer. I can't tell you how many times I've done the early exit for guests to come BACK INSIDE only to start cleaning off tables, taking down decorations and packing up the gifts.
The sendoff is the encore, the finale, the curtain call. Keep it there if at all possible!

Before the ceremony, BRIDES: Make sure you either remove your engagement ring and give it to him WITH the wedding ring, or temporarily transfer it to your right hand until after the ceremony. Why? Because the wedding ring goes on first because it's closest to the heart, and then the engagement ring goes on after. If you remember to do either/or at the moment the officiant calls for the rings, it may cause some delay, especially if you're having difficulty getting the ring off. Save time and do it the morning of, and if you have a good officiant, they should remind you the morning of as well.
