Bury flowers in silica with me!
My kiddos are loving creating these videos for me- be prepared for lots of these videos π this video features my amazing 11-year old, Ariya.
This is one of our favorite parts of the process - removing the backing after the dome coat is complete. It's so satisfying to peel of the back and see the amazing finished product!!
Today is such an exciting day!!!!
You have probably wondered where the name "Floral Butterfly Designs" came from. It came from my 11-year old, Ariya and stemmed from this saying- Butterflies appear when angels are near.
One of my dreams came true today - I was able to have custom ornaments made!!!!
Starting today, all memorial orders will be gifted one of these ornaments. If you would like one also, I've got them added to my website at a low, introductory price that even include shipping.

Burying flowers in silica needs a lot of attention.
However the flowers are buried is how they will be preserved - so you want to pour slowly inside each flower as well as around it so that you don't change the shape. An average flower order takes around an hour to place in silica.
After flowers are dropped off, I cut the ends at an angle and let them soak up water.
Then I cut them and let them rest for a few weeks in silica.
The average memorial order require at least 35 pounds of silica, and the average wedding order requires at least 50 pounds of silica. I've had several orders so large that they require a 54 QT container with over 140 pounds of silica πͺ
I'm excited to take you on the journey of preserving these beautiful memorial flowers.
This is one of my favorite parts of creating keepsakes!
It's so satisfying to peel off the backs of a piece to see the smooth amazing top and side coats!
But - I have never shared this with the internet. Why? The internet is mean and I've been afraid.
I bite my nails and I try to hide that. But today I'm feeling brave. So here is a sped up video of uncovering the back side of a piece.
Also - you'll notice you can see a pin from the bouquet on the under side - I hide little gems like that in all pieces so you can always uncover new items in your keepsake.
Fun story--
Earlier this summer, I flower-napped flowers from my Grandparents' backyard. This week they were awarded the Flower Power award in their town, so it seemed like the perfect week to give them a surprise!
What's even more fun about this moment- I was able to use two new shape options!
The first is a trinket jar - this has so many angles that it creates rainbows on the walls around it. Plus the bottom is an inch deep so I can add most flowers to the bottom of the jar!
The second is a 6-inch hanging circle! This is the perfect size to not be too heavy so it won't fall off the wall.
My sister was married over Easter weekend π₯°
I am so thankful for the trust she has in me to create a keepsake out of her bouquet.
My daughter was the flower girl π©΅ Since she named FBD, I had to include her picture here, too!
This finished tray with ring cones - I am obsessed with them!

Looking to give your keepsake an extra touch? I can add fairy lights to any clear-edge piece while hiding the lights so it's a statement piece with the lights on or off.
The more I've begun working with wood, the more I've loved the keepsakes that have been created! What are your thoughts of adding more wood options to my shop?
Night light
I'm working on a super fun new piece π₯
What are your thoughts, should I offer lights inside pieces?
Lots of this happening lately as I'm unmolding your pieces.
I'm currently working on memorial pieces for young kiddos who recently lost their mom. π₯°
I stage the dried flowers, send a picture to the family friend who ordered them for approval, and now it's time to pour.
Did you trust me?
Did you trust me yesterday while I was sanding? Now I'll pour one more coat on all sides. The process is almost complete π€©
Going from good to great takes a little extra faith. Every piece, once fully hardened, gets sanded. Does this make you nervous? Or do you trust me?
First pour!
I received beautiful flowers after a recent surgery. I decided that they deserved to be preserved in an 8x8 block. Here's the first pour!
I'm in love with this purple rose being preserved in this memorial piece.
