#6
Coseytown Penny just had to make this list!! At the beginning of the season (video) her colors were a little too varied and load for arrangements but oh my was she pretty to look at, standing tall above everyone else. Her blooms are big without being to big, super strong stems! Early bloomer! Her colors faded and blended a bit more mid-season which were a beautiful addition to arrangements. Large round tubers.
Top 10 List
Over the next week I’ll note my favorite dahlias from this past season. These are the varieties that preformed well for the majority of the season, made great cut flowers, and produced at least 5+ tubers. All will be available in our dahlia tuber sale December 7th at 9pm.
What October looks like in the dahlia patch!
The fast three days I have been documenting 206 varieties that made it to the table for 2024 consideration out of 350+. With a two day heat wave a lot of them were blowing centers by the end but know open centers aren’t a typical trait. Over the next few weeks I’ll share individual groups by color.
Thank you, Lissette, for your visit this afternoon and for capturing the magic happening in our gardens!
This weeks project!
As a flower farmer that intends to sell tubers, it is vital to confirm correct identification. Here is our method. Once the tubers are dug, they will be divided one cultivar at a time and labeled on each tuber with an abbreviation of its name.
60 done, only about 900 to go!
Over the next few days I’ll be posting lots of mini clips of sections of the dahlia fields, so be prepared for dahlia overload!
Next up is the Ferncliff section. One correction, I referenced one bloom as Ferncliff Crevasse, however the darker of the two is Ferncliff Classy. I will also post a few other pictures in the comments of additional introductions by Ferncliff. Enjoy!
Dalia Field #1
A quick glimpse at one of our dahlia fields on this glorious overcast day!
Coseytown Penny has decided to bring everyone to the party! While she has been consistently pushing out blooms all season, today she outdid herself! Long stems, robust plant.
Part 3 of 3
Lastly, Patti, of @annegreyflowers let me give it a try with lots of guidance. A little more on the wild side and she tried hard to reign me in but I still love it!
What a gift to grow and create with these gorgeous things we call flowers! Thanks Patti for helping me learn even more ways to highlight each one’s unique beauty! I’m in awe!
Part 2 of 3
Next Patti @annegreyflowers created version 2.0 and added in some other elements to mix it up a bit.
Which do you prefer, the all dahlia arrangement in part 1 or this version 2.0? The dahlia lover in me like’s version 1, but the gardener in me likes 2.
