There may be a chance to see the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights tonight.

The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G4 (Severe) Geomagnetic Watch for May 11, 2024. Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are anticipated to merge and arrive at Earth by late Friday or early Saturday. This will result in a chance to see the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights tonight. The forecast looks pretty good right now and calls for decreasing cloudiness.

With mostly clear to partly cloudy skies expected over much of the United States, this year's Geminid meteor shower is forecast to offer one of the best cosmic shows in recent years, according to astronomers…

In some parts of the county, stargazers can expect to see up to 120 meteors per hour streaking across the sky, according to Fried. But in places like New York City, with its brightly lit skyline, would-be astronomers might see 20 to 30 meteors per hour, or one every two minutes during the peak, Fried said.

He said the best time to view the meteor shower will be between 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday and 1 a.m. on Thursday….
