Why do I share my story?
I share my story because I have struggled for a long time and during that time I often felt alone. I share my story (and encourage others to do the same) so that NO ONE FEELS ALONE in their pain and struggle.
While it is NOT HEALTHY to stay stuck in our pain by continually ruminating on all our “stuff,” we can’t just ignore it. We have to do the hard work of dealing with our “stuff” so it doesn’t fester and explode OR cause us to isolate, FREEZE, and retreat!
When I had my first of three miscarriages, I didn’t tell anyone other than Craig and my sister. Many years later, when I finally shared my story, many people stepped forward to say, “I’ve had a miscarriage too.”
Sadly and up until I had shared my story, I felt very alone. I felt like I was one of the “VERY few” who had ever had a miscarriage, but that was CLEARLY not the truth. Many people had had miscarriages before, but hardly any of them had openly talked about them.
So, that’s why I am encouraging you–through my example–to share your stories: NO ONE SHOULD FEEL ALONE in their struggles.
