Big Band fun for little ears! 🎶

The Jazz Fest free Family Concert was a HUGE hit—one of our biggest yet! Nearly record-breaking attendance filled the room as the Kyle Athayde Dance Party brought Big Band for Little Kids to life with brand-new and old classic songs. From clapping and dancing to shushing those mischievous trombones, kids and adults alike joined in the fun.

We love seeing young ones experience the joy of live music, and we’re so grateful to our partners at Juneau Public Libraries for adding a creative touch with a coordinating craft.

Family Concerts are a highlight of every festival, and we can’t wait to do it again in May!

Thank you KTOO for the story and for sharing the music education message and mission we have for Alaska.

From jazz combos made up of a handful of musicians to full big bands with close to thirty members, students worked with professional jazz musicians to add some finishing touches to their sets before two days of concerts.

We had an amazing weekend, and we hope you did too. Kyle Athayde and his fellow bandmates traveled all over town for

6 school assemblies

6 jazz band clinics

20 community workshops

2 community outreaches

2 free concerts

2 ticketed concerts

and a pub crawl, dance, and jam session

All packed into 4 days. Some of the musicians even managed to hit the Eaglecrest slopes. That's what we call an Alaskan experience.

🎶 Music education is the soul of Juneau Jazz Fest.

All week, members of the Kyle Athayde Dance Party have been working with student groups, inspiring the next generation of jazz musicians. You heard some of their incredible performances last night—now come hear even more!

📍 Tonight at Juneau Douglas High School:
🎷 5:30 PM – Student groups + the debut of the All-Alaska Jazz Band
🎺 7:00 PM – Kyle Athayde Dance Party takes the stage with the full band!

There something for everyone on the final day of Juneau Jazz Fest.

Big Band for Little Kids is geared toward babies-12 years old, but everyone is welcome. We will have front row seating on the floor for littles, and a few chairs in the back. The set list includes jazzed up versions of nursery rhymes and more. The Juneau Library staff has a fun craft planned to use during the concert, so make sure to come at 9:30 if you can.

Community workshops- bring your instrument, or just come and listen. Grab a sheet at the front door and choose your session. You can attend multiple sessions all for free.

Tickets are available at the door for tonight's blowout finale concert. We start off with student groups and the All-Alaska Jazz Band, then at 7 pm it's the full Kyle Athayde Dance Party. 18+ musicians on stage at once. Come for some of the concert, or all of the concert. 7 pm in the high school auditorium.

Thanks to the whole community for elevating the second year of Juneau Jazz Fest. It's been a blast.

Band members have been out in the community sharing their love of jazz. They visited Wildflower Court, Pioneer Home, and almost every school in Juneau. Thank you for welcoming them into your spaces.

What a great brown bag concert. JJ&C Artistic Director Zuill Bailey even joined in for a few pieces. A true jazz and classics collaboration.

Kyle Athayde Dance Party is here all week and if you missed yesterday’s concert, set your alarm for tomorrow, Saturday February 8 for the Jazz Fest Finale concert.

It starts at 5:30 pm with student band showcases and the All Alaska Jazz Band, then at 7 pm the Kyle Athayde Dance Party finishes out the night and the rest of Juneau Jazz Fest.

Saturday is full of opportunities with a free morning concert and community workshops too. Jazzandclassics.org gets you the rest of the calendar.

The Kyle Athayde Dance party is taking a break from visiting schools and coaching student jazz bands to play a free concert for the community.
