The competition season started off strong this year! The BPQ Competition was very good to us. We came home with:

It was a very well run competition, with some great competitors. We’re excited for what the rest of the year brings!

We recently sold our smoker to Breaking Slabs BBQ Competition Team, and received 2 of their Gateway drums in return. They were moving from competition to catering, while we move in the opposite direction. After the first cook, we couldn’t be any happier! The drums performed flawlessly for two briskets going to a fire department Christmas party!

Decided to break out the OG smoker for a fundraiser cook. This little smoker has seen more than a few competitions, and done quite well in a couple. It’s smoked countless pounds of meat in the backyard, but keeps on trucking like an old Chevy. Swing by the Belle Plaine Fall Fest tomorrow for some loaded baked potatoes with F5 pulled pork!

How we managed to pull this off, we’ll never know. There has to be a world record for the fastest brisket cooked, and we might be in the running. It’s in the judges hands now!

Setting up for the Meat Inferno KCBS competition in Edgerton, KS with some great live music in the background! It’s going to be our biggest competition of the year, with a total of 38 teams. It’ll be an early start tomorrow.

GAMEDAY POPPERS

How about a recipe for one of our favorite appetizers? It’s a summer classic that will always be a hit!

Ingredients:
-16 dove breast halves (sliced brisket also works great)
-8 jalapenos
-1 block cream cheese
-8 oz shredded cheddar cheese
-16 strips of bacon
-Any all purpose BBQ rub (take a guess at which one we use)
-Honey

Instructions:
-Halve and core jalapeños
-Soften cream cheese, then mix with shredded cheddar and a light dusting of rub
-Fill each jalapeno half with cream cheese mixture
-Top jalapeno half with a dove breast, then wrap in bacon, securing with a toothpick
-Add a light dusting to the top of each popper
-Smoke at 250 for 1 hour
-Drizzle honey over each popper, then smoke for 30 minutes
-Remove and enjoy!

Dexter Outdoors how about a sponsorship?? The nurses said it was the cleanest cut they’ve ever seen! By the way, if you haven’t invested in a set of Dexter knives, I highly recommend them.. just make sure you’re cutting the right meat!

After riding out a monsoon on Friday night, Saturday was a great day for cooking. Ended up with a call in brisket slices, and enough points to walk away 3rd Overall. Now for a couple of weekends off to get ready for the next one.

Not quite the results we wanted, but we had a great time at York Relay for Life. It’s always a pleasure to cook with Dragons BBQ, and both of the kiddos made it out. Off to McCook, NE next weekend!
