On Monday July 17th Kokomo Fire Department had a 2 day old baby girl dropped off in our Safe Haven Baby Box at 215 W Superior St.

The mother left a note sharing her love and hopes she had for her daughter. 2nd platoon was working and responded to the box alarm quickly. James Shaffer arrived first and took over care for the child until it was turned over to St Vincent Ascension Medics.

Thank you to Safe Haven Box Group, Knights of Columbus, St Vincent Ascension and our 2nd Platoon Firefighters for making this possible for this little girl.

Finally thank you to the mom. While we will never know your full story that led you to this point in life. We thank you for making the loving decision to make sure your baby is taken care of. We can’t imagine what you are going through but you led with love and your baby will always carry that with her.

Signups have started for this years 2023 Memorial Trubute Challenge!!! Don’t miss out this year and come to Kokomo and be apart of an amazing event.

This year will be bigger and better then ever! We are offering 4 different events this year. All events will take place at the Kokomo Memorial Stadium. We will be offering a 5k walk/ run, the 9/11 StairClimb, a Hero Wod and a survivors walk all to pay tribute to 9/11. Food vendors will be on hand as well. Come and spend the day with us and enjoy this opportunity to pay tribute to all the men and women that lost there lives on 9/11. Proceeds will benefit the Captain Marty Meyers Scholarship Foundation, The Carl Koontz Scholarship Foundation as well the The Kokomo Police Departments (FOP) Scholarship foundation.
