Speaking of made-up words and spellings or otherwise difficult to search for titles...

"In da Club" by 50 Cent

Not too difficult (easy, actually), but it's pronounced "inda club by fittycent". Okay, again, not hard, but unless you're into music, you're not gonna get that on the first try. Let's try something harder...

"That Fleetwood Mac song that goes, 'lightning only happens when it's raining...'"
Oh, you means DREAMS?
"No, the one I just said!"


"Apple Bottom Jeans by Florida"
LOW by Flo Rida?
"Whatever"

There are countless others from across time -- this is NOT a new phenomenon (do dooo do do doo). But the one that blows my mind was a recent request for "that song" by "Bizza Rap and Shakira". Took way more time than it should have to find it. It's "Bizarrap & Shakira" and the song in question? "Shakira BZRP Music Sessions, Vol 53". I mean, what the hell? Sounded like a whole album, so it didn't get played. Might be pretty good, too, but I didn't know then at the time and it's not been requested since.

What I really want to know is while I get unique spelling of names (HELLO!), what I don't get is unique spelling of titles. That makes my job much harder to get it right. I mean, three spelling of Momma/Mamma/Mama? Or how about IDENTICAL song titles by twenty-five DIFFERENT artists (and they're NOT all covers)? Yeah, I'm looking at you, DOWNTOWN by Petula Clarke, One2Many, Macklemore and Lady A (among many others).

NO WONDER DJs cost so much! We gotta figure out what you're trying to say sitting next to speakers pumping out 110dB of sound, and then pick the right combination of variables to make sure you hear the song you requested!

Okay, from the beginning,

If you’re doing a “1st look,” ask each other if you want to stay
together after photos or separate before the ceremony.

If your venue puts out a water station for the ceremony, ask if they can
add lemon, cukes, etc. Sometimes they will... for free.

If you don’t have a ME, make sure something is assigned to turn the
lights down for dinner and then again for dancing.

Have some champ waiting for you right after the ceremony - it’s a great
time to celebrate!

Decide when you will bustle your dress and add it to the timeline.

If you don’t have a ME, ask someone to repurpose your cocktail hour
decor in the reception (there is always a place for flowers).

If you’re not doing a champ toast for everyone, ask to have it just for
you and the people giving the toast.

If you have a dessert bar, opt for a coffee station instead of coffee
service - these two go better together.

If you have multiple cake flavors, ask the caterer to alternate flavors
at the guests’ seats or display the cake on a table for guests to pick.

Kids in the wedding party should not stand during the ceremony. Period.

No, the ring bearer does not hold the rings. The BM does.

Make sure you have a few chairs and/or chairs/tables in cocktail hour
for elderly guests.

Silly, I have to say this, but make sure you have food at the cocktail
hour too!

Ten people at a 60-inch round table is too tight; I don’t care what they
say.

If you have access to a Publix, they have the best wedding cakes.
Everyone always asks me where it’s from when it’s Publix!

Pass drinks after the ceremony if the cocktail hour is nearby; it will
alleviate the line.

Have a rehearsal. You really have no idea how this can calm your nerves!

People will not show up that RSVP’d. Wrap your head around it now and
let it go.

Read your room block contracts if you are giving out welcome bags;
sometimes they have a fee for this.

When you dance, everyone else will dance!
