Meet our President:

Toni Knudson's signature design philosophy personifies contemporary elegance. Her previous position as Director of Design for Knudson Development involved overseeing the design, construction and interiors of many diverse commercial and residential projects. A desire to have a more hands on approach led her to found Knudson Interiors and focus on luxury residential properties.

As President of Knudson Interiors she oversees design to realize the Knudson vision of luxury living. Inspiration is drawn from her extensive travels and life experience. Toni is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute, founder of Recalibrate Body Mind Spirit and a board member of the Knudson Foundation. Combining her passion for design and knowledge in food, music, and wellness she is able to orchestrate extraordinary spaces designed to live life graciously to the fullest. Collaboration with art consultants, chefs, wine specialists and classical musicians help create a dynamic and original space that is unique on every level.

This gym we designed for a client in Aspen includes a steam room that acts as a focal point with glass tile and decorative lighting not typically found in a workout room

Local artisans put their heart and soul into the products they make and sell. It is important we do not let them fade away.

Hawaii still stands as a symbol of cultural heritage, thanks to its local history and traditions, which people still take seriously. We love sourcing unique pieces from local artisans to maintain a connection to the culture.

A favorite artist on the Big Island is Mark Kimball at Lavapots. Lavapots are created from a unique ceramic/concrete blend of quarry sand, cement, ceramic clay, pozzolians, waterproofing fillers, and fibers and hand thrown in one of Mark's custom molds.

Renting a home or apartment can be convenient however the decor often is not a reflection of your taste or design aesthetic. A few DIY changes cannot only personalize your space but also uplift your mood.

Swap out hardware for non-boring k***s, pulls, and handles. You can even replace light switch plates, towel bars, and any k***s from furniture pieces. All you’ll need is a screwdriver.

Removable wallpaper is quite possibly one of the most amazing inventions in the design world. It allows you to instantly add color, texture, or movement to any wall in your home without the long-term commitment that comes with permanent wallpaper or paint.

Add light! Use easy to install, rechargeable wall lights or change existing fixtures--you may need to hire an electrician to assist.

Change window coverings. Most rentals include hideous mini blinds. You can find inexpensive cellular shades at Home Depot or add draperies to soften the space.

This may seem obvious but it is highly beneficial to locate a light switch next next to the bed. A light switch panel that also includes an outlet and USB ports is especially helpful. These let homeowners dim or shut off lights and charge devices without getting up or reaching behind or under a bed or nightstand. In the bedroom, functionality is key. Who wants to get up to turn off the lights? Or turn on the light to read? Or reach down to plug in one’s phone?

Designing clothes is very similar to designing furniture. Additionally, pulling an outfit is very much like designing a house interior. Fashion is about combining colors, patterns, and textures. Interior design is exactly the same.

The iconic designer Coco Chanel’s design philosophy centered on simplicity and comfort, rejecting the extravagant details reminiscent of the Belle Époque era.

Be it limewash paint or other textural finishes, the trend is moving towards spaces that have natural dimension and movement. Gone are the days of flat paints and single tone rooms. Texutred walls are now at the forefront.

Textured walls can be a strategic design choice to hide imperfections or irregularities in the wall surface. By introducing texture, it can divert attention away from any blemishes or structural limitations, creating a more polished and refined look. The decision to incorporate a textured walls in a space has the potential to enhance aesthetics, add depth and warmth, as well as address practical design considerations, ultimately contributing to a more visually appealing and inviting environment.

We used a venetian plaster in this master bedroom at The Four Seasons Hualalai to add dimension and texture.
