I love it when my couples create experiences for their guests when it comes to the beverage menu. For A + S we technically had three cocktail hours. A pre-ceremony welcome hour with live music and one signature drink, then the usual pre-reception cocktail hour where they served two more signatures. At the end of the evening we had the third cocktail hour with a delicious espresso martini and churro bar. This created movement throughout the property and kept things new and exciting for the guests.

Happy anniversary to the most gorgeous couple ever! Maud and Adrian came all the way from Switzerland to wed amongst the red sandstone at Valley of Fire. They are the perfect example of how you can still create a truly magical experience with a small guest count. From custom mocktails to a picnic with personal sized charcuterie boxes, it was the most chill and perfect afternoon.

For A+S's wedding we used as little floral as possible to eliminate the unfortunate waste that tends to come from weddings. Our solution was to use agave and succulents for the tables. The agave were each wrapped in burlap with their soil, allowing us to quickly pluck them from their vases and load them into the truck to later be planted at the newlyweds home. 🌵🪴

It's been almost 3 years since we were last there for Stephanie and Ming 🤍 The entire grounds of The Oasis of Death Valley is beautiful but this little gem of a garden with this adobe style arch is my absolute favorite spot.

I came across a public thread last week where a bride was asking for input on seating arrangements. The majority of responses were in disfavor of these, guests stating they don't understand the purpose of them and hate them. So let's talk about them, shall we?
What is the point of seating arrangements? Sometimes, it's because there are challenging family dynamics that need to be taken into consideration. If there are family members who do not get along, it is easier to assign tables and create any necessary distance between them.
A situation where seating arrangements are absolutely required is if you are having a plated meal and guests pre-selected their entree. Your caterer is going to require a seating chart, preferably color coded, plus place cards at each seat with the entree selection noted on the card. This is for logistical purposes to ensure your serving staff can quickly and efficiently plate the meals within minutes.
Don't want seating arrangements for your wedding? Then your option is to have a buffet or give your guests the same entree. Are you a guest and mad about it? You can spend 1-hour in your seat to eat your meal so deal with it. 😉

I am terrible when it comes to knowing what month we are in, let alone what today's date is. That could partly because I am always working with dates that are in the future, so no I couldn't have told you that today was April 10th if you just came up to me and asked me, it's April 20th because for the last 6 weeks all I have been working on is my client's upcoming April 20th wedding 🤣
None the less, two days ago was this sweet couple's 1 year wedding anniversary. Michelle and Carlos, I hope these last 12 months have been full of so many amazing blessings. You two deserve the absolute world! Your wedding was incredibly special, I was honored to be a part of it. 🤍

Stationery. I will forever be team paper wedding invites.
Yes, websites where guests can submit RSVPs can be convenient. However, sticking with what we used to do before technology took over our world is sometimes simply just better. Like receiving a handwritten letter or card in the mail instead of on your Facebook wall. Or a phone call instead of a text or a DM. Paper invitations give you the opportunity to start telling the story of your wedding day, giving your guests that first glimpse of what to expect.
Are you a guest who received a paper invite with a prestamped RSVP card to mail back? Write a sweet note to the couple on the back of your card. It's already super exciting for couples when RSVP cards begin arriving, but it's even more enjoyable to read your words of love and excitement for the big day!

The Floral.
Mylofleur is truly magnificent in everyway and I was so excited when I discovered they would be collaborating with us on this shoot. Can we all just take a moment and gaze at that arch? If only you could smell it through your screen! The floral was so sweetly scented, which was heightened in the dry desert air. Keeping with our desire to shift away from the usual earth tones, pampas and dried palm leaves, our floral was soft, feminine, and fluffy in shades of pink, blue and ivory.

The Table.
In this dry desert landscaping we wanted to get as far away as we could from the usual boho aesthetic that is usually done in such environments. Just because you are in the desert doesn't mean you have to stick with earth tones and pampas. Here we used soft shades of slate, pinks, and blues with a variety of textures and wood tones. Our flatware was two toned, the china was feminine and sweet, and the cut-glass drinkware sparkled in the sun. For seating, we used a variety of oversized chairs that you could easily get cozy in. And yes, we even went so far as to bring in a chandelier, because why not?

This custom gown, made specifically for our shoot, was created by the incredible Sondra Falk of Sondra Falk Couture in Las Vegas. We were looking for something incredibly specific, but what she created was something even more beautiful than we could have imagined. My one personal request was for the gown to have bows, which she showcased at the top of each fluffy sleeve. My southern heart was happy. 💙
Our model's hair and makeup was done by none other than Vegas Makeup Artistry. Annie is my go to when it comes to my brides and their wedding day looks. She created this simple yet chic look which allowed for the dress to be the star.

Did you get engaged over the holidays? First things first, CONGRATULATIONS! Now you're probably wondering what you're supposed to do next. Want my honest opinion? My advice is to slow down and just enjoy being engaged. Being married is great fun, but you're going to have the rest of your life for that 😁 Being engaged is such a beautiful blip in your story, so relish in it. Buy all of the bridal magazines, the bottles of champagne, and just have fun for now. Then in two months call us and let's get that wedding planned! 🍾🥂

I am unfortunately still fighting whatever ick I caught in Chicago over Christmas so my NYE plans consist of watching celebrations from my couch. Even though I feel crummy I am so excited for 2024! 🍁🍂It's NOVEMBER! 🍁🍂 Which means we have finally made it out to the other side of the busiest wedding month in Las Vegas! Y'all I am BEAT, but it was a whole lot of fun! 17 total weddings that I had to be onsite for, a birthday party in the middle of the desert, hosted a fall market and somehow managed to squeeze in 27 total meetings into all of that. And I will not look to see how many miles I drove in these last 4 weeks. All I know is I fed my SUV a of a lot of gas.
So what am I doing today? Cleaning my office and garage! 🤣

What are my thoughts on doing the majority of your portraits before the ceremony? The tradition of not seeing one another until the ceremony is fading away, I understand the sweetness behind it HOWEVER what I love most is doing your first look privately and not with 50 pairs of eyes watching you (instead it's just 6...myself, your photographer, and your videographer). Seeing one another for the first time on your wedding day all dressed in your best is a huge moment and, in my opinion, should be just for the two of you. Which leads to my next point - doing your first look prior to your crremony then allows you to get a good chunk of your portraits done and out of the way so that during cocktail hour you can focus on family and wedding party photos and of course have time for a snack!

Wedding Favor Tip:
If you are placing your wedding favors at a single table for guests to take at the end of the night, do not purchase a favor for every guest. Purchase anywhere from 60-75% of your guest count. Otherwise, you are going to end up with a s**t ton of favors to take back with you. The only exception is if you are placing a favor at each place setting, which in that case you will need one for every guest.

I have always envied people who were masters at creating the most beautiful cocktails or who have a wealth of knowledge about wine and champagne. Since I myself am not an expert in that field, having someone in my back pocket who is is important. I have a devout love for intimate sized events as they allow people to create a more tailored experience. A part of that experience is the bar. I can appreciate a casual shin-dig as the next person; however, a curated beverage menu is just so magical. A beautiful cocktail list is a part of the overall ambiance of the environment. It sets the tone and of course makes the bellies of the guests happy. Toni of Trixie's Mobile Bartending is that expert. I guarantee that if Jasper (shown in this photo gallery) or Trixie is parked at your event, you are most certainly in for a treat.

Your bouquet is an accessory, not the star of the show. Keep them petite in size to prevent them from overpowering you. Michelle's bouquet is the perfect example of what this should look like. You see everything about her, not JUST her bouquet. I love big floral arrangements as much as the next person, but one thing that gets me is a beautiful bride holding a bouquet the size of my labrador. It's way too distracting, especially in photos.
