A Plaisance

A Plaisance a’Plaisance, Ltd. trains people, horses and crew in the skills of medieval tournament combat. Book an event or learn real jousting at www.aplaisance.com.

We also produce medieval tournaments and events featuring the pageantry of the originals. Located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country just north of Austin, Texas, our facility is the home of Chivalric Equitation in the USA and is made up of friendly people who all share the love, camaraderie and esprit de corp of historic jousting tournaments. Over the years we have provided production and audio

visual technology expertise in:
- producing the largest Competitive Jousting Tournament in the world today, Lysts on the Lake, each year in Austin, Texas.
- trained people and horses all over the world to compete in Jousting, the Grand Melee and Skill at Arms courses.
- sinking a replica of the Titanic in Lake Austin while 200+ guests dined on-board
- flying guests into "Neverland" for a fully interactive experience with all the characters from "Peter Pan"
- transporting guests to visit "The Wizard of Oz" through a simulated tornado experience and interacting with the Wizard and Wicked Witch through projection and lighting effects
- freezing over "Hell" and the inclusion of lighting, sound, laser and projection technologies over a real snow covered estate in Austin, Texas in July
- creating a post apocalyptic "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome" extravaganza in the form of a 20' geodesic dome covered in hundreds of computer controlled lights and concert quality sound
- recreating a quaint reproduction of a real snow covered Victorian London for costumed guests to experience "A Christmas Carol" in September.
- landing aliens into the hills of Austin, Texas for a battle with tactical forces through the use of pyrotechnics, sophisticated lighting and sound effects, as well as simulated missile and machine gun fire from a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter for the press launch of Destination Games "Tabula Rasa"
- transforming the Austin "Britannia Manor" estate into the most elaborate, interactive haunted house experience through the use of sophisticated computer controlled lighting and projection design to create lightning storms, spectral figures, magical effects and interactive experiences with several hundred quests over 4 nights

Over the past few months, I've received several inquiries about the official dates for "Lysts on the Lake" 2023...and, privately, I've been telling folks that we were working towards trying to have it at our place the last weekend in October....but I hadn't make an "official" date announcement yet.

So, here it is....

After much thought and commiseration, Dawn and I have decided that we're going to take 2023 off. We're looking at a few options on how to reset the idea of Lysts and try to come up with something bigger and grander in the future...but, in order to do that, we need to take some time off to pull those plans together.

Basically, we need a break from it this year.

Also....and I've mentioned this to some folks privately as well...Fable Fest has taken this year off due to them building a new library. However, they'll be back next year for sure.
And...my contact for Pumpkin Fest has moved to another municipality and since she was the brains behind Pumpkin Fest for the City of Mesquite, they aren't planning to have jousting this year. However, we may be doing something with my contact again next year in another city.

So, no...Dawn, I and a'Plaisance, Ltd. aren't doing our usual October jousting schedule this year. But we hope to have something bigger and better next year. Stay tuned!

Heads up on a really cool project that two awesome armourers are putting together....Patrick Thaden and Eric Dube have teamed up to try a new project: building an armet in real time and live streaming it to the internet.

This is a fantastic opportunity to see a unique armour build in a unique way! Let's try to help them make this happen!

Two talented craftsmen recreate a 15th century helmet in real time.
