Officials selected Alabama A&M to lead the 11 marching bands in the parade, making it the historically Black university’s first band appearance in the event’s almost 100-year history. The university’s Dancin’ Divas will perform with the band, and again in a special performance with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, the university announced.

87 years old.
There was a time in American history when by design, many people of African descent could not read or write. Their lives were also seen as insignificant and not worthy of having access to written knowledge. They certainly weren’t encouraged to record their own history.

Fortunately, humanity has evolved a bit, and this is a new age. Not only do we understand the importance of literacy, we recognize the importance of capturing and telling our stories. We understand that our history must be preserved and WE are the only ones to do it.

Each community must take responsibility for publishing their knowledge.

After years of people asking questions, my client, Sr. Daaimah Delores Jardan has taken on that charge for herself.

Having come into a life of Al-Islam following her parents’ conversion, Sr Jardan has lived almost 9 decades in the Muslim community. She's come across many characters who both shaped her in to the woman she is, and also laid the groundwork for the LA California Muslim community.

We may have lost a lot of our knowledge in the past, that we cannot control.
But we CAN learn our mistake and preserve it from today.

Her book comes out this summer inshaAllah. May Allah accept.
