The Northern and Southern Courses of the Los Angeles Country Club are separated by Wilshire Boulevard, one of the busiest arteries in the city. In 2021, the United States Golf Association - USGA contracted Kilowatt Events to devise a solution to safely connect the two courses for a seamless experience for the US Open’s 22,000 fans a day.
Over the course of the next year and a half, our team and partners designed and engineered a 24’ wide by 112’ long bridge in a fashion that could be built over the busy road in just two overnight street closures. With the construction occurring over Memorial Day Weekend and the subsequent stair and elevator install for ADA compliance continuing in the week that followed, one of the largest temporary clear span bridges ever built was completed in time for a spectacular US Open!
