A different kind of introduction: My name is Amy, and my husband Ross and I are the flower cart transporters, bouquet builders, delivery staff, flower growers, flower killers, w**d pullers, and more.
A question I am asked often is, “who is Ruby?” A question that is simple and yet complex at the same time.
Simply put, Ruby was my maternal grandmother. A strong, independent lady that I miss dearly. My paternal grandmother, Zaga (short for Zagorka), who was a Serbian immigrant, is also equally as important and relevant to this introduction. I grew up with just these two ladies and no other grandparents during my childhood. But they were all I ever needed. Ruby loved her vegetable garden and pecan trees and I have many memories with her picking veggies but somehow managing not to eat them. She showed me the true meaning of hard work and self sufficiency. Zaga also loved gardening, but spent her days growing flowers, especially hibiscus. Every time I visited her tiny apartment, I left with 5-10 plants that I had no room for, but I couldn’t dare say no to her. Zaga gave up everything she had to move to the U.S. to ensure her children and grandchildren would be taken care of. Truly a selfless, intentional, decision that made the biggest impact.
These two ladies mean everything to me. I regret that my love of flowers/gardening began after they were both gone, but this little flower business is the best way I know to give back to them. So, every time you come to the cart or order flowers, just know you are not only supporting a small business but also continuing their legacy 🤍
