As of 11:00pm, the National Hurricane Center has found that winds around the center of Beryl has strengthened to 75 mph, making it a Cat. 1 Hurricane. We're still expecting rain to be the biggest issue in the morning, although totals should really only be from 1.5 to 4 inches. We'll also start to feel some gusty winds, with measurements from 20 to 40 mph briefly. Beryl is still expected to move out of our area quickly. I'll be continuing to do updates on Southeast Texas Express through the morning.

10:00 UPDATE. Beryl remains a strong tropical storm at 70 mph winds. I was really surprised to not see this storm upgraded. With that said, it is still expected to reach hurricane status by early morning when making landfall. As far as Southeast Texas, no changes in what we're expecting. On and off again bands of rain overnight, with more widespread rain by daybreak. Winds from 20 to 30 mph could be felt in spots. And rainfall totals should be between 1 and 4 inches in some areas. Sorry about the sound on the last video update. We have it fixed....I hope! Beryl has strengthened just a bit. Now up to 70 mph winds. Still shy of hurricane strength. Very confident this will reach a strong Cat 1 hurricane before landfall. Landfall is now bearing down at Bay City by 3:00 am tomorrow morning. The latest data from the National Hurricane Center has Beryl still at tropical storm strength. However, the storm has the potential to reach a category 1 hurricane before making landfall. The center of Beryl should move onshore at Palacios during the early morning hours. For Southeast Texas, it means winds from 20 to 30 mph, and rain moving through starting late tonight. Rain totals are expected to be between 3 and 5 inches through Monday evening. I'll be doing a live video update shortly at Southeast Texas Express on Facebook and YouTube. The latest updates on Beryl shows that the storm has not increased, as far as wind speed. But Beryl is starting to look better organized as it approaches the Texas coast close to Palacios. Beryl is expected to be a category 1 hurricane by landfall early tomorrow morning.

No big changes in the latest update for Beryl. The forecasted track still has Beryl making landfall over Port Lavaca early Monday morning. The models are in agreement for the most part. As far as our area, we're going to see elevated tides at times, and some gusty winds. But the biggest impact will be the rains moving in. Expect some 3 to 5 inches total in some spots. The 4:00 update on Beryl. Again, Beryl has weakened into a tropical storm as it continues to move across the Yucatan. By tomorrow morning, Beryl will be emerging in to the southern most Gulf of Mexico. Latest model guidance has inched the forecast path to just between Corpus and Rockport by early Monday morning. Elevated tidal concerns for our area are certainly a concern. However, the excessive rainfall Monday will be our focus as the storm moves through Texas.

Beryl has downgraded to a tropical storm. It is expected to move into the southern most Gulf of Mexico later tonight. Winds have downgraded to around 70 mph. Beryl will start to build in strength over the Gulf, and now has the center of circulation moving south of Corpus Christi by early Monday morning. This is the latest forecast for Hurricane Beryl. Both the forecast and the spaghetti models have all takes just a slight northerly turn. Beryl is now over the Yucatan, and is expected to weaken as it emerges into the southern Gulf as a tropical storm. After it emerges into the Gulf, it could intensify after some 24 hours...becoming a hurricane again. Two different models suggest that westerly shear in the upper levels could decrease. That coupled along with favorable conditions in the Gulf could help Beryl strengthen more than expected. Hurricane Beryl will be passing near or over Jamaica during the next several hours. After that, the center of the storm will move over or near the Cayman Islands tonight or early tomorrow morning. Surface features over the U.S. should still be in place to keep Beryl south of Texas. But with modeling data still not as certain, we'll keep a close eye on it, and relay info as needed.
