City View by the James is located on the 20th floor of the Bank of the James building overlooking historic downtown Lynchburg, Virginia.

The unparalled mile long views make this the only venue in the area with this distinct ammenity. The City View by the James management team will ensure your event is handled with professionalism and will have staff present throughout your event to assist with any of your needs. We also have an experienced staff available for event consultation and planning. City View by the James is available for:

On June 14, 1781 Thomas Jefferson, his wife Martha and their young daughter Patsy arrived at Poplar Forest after narrowly avoiding capture by British soldiers at Monticello. The Jefferson family would stay on the property for two months after Jefferson injured his wrist. It was during this stay that Jefferson wrote most of his only published work "Notes on the State of Virginia". The family most likely stayed in an overseer's cabin as the retreat home visitors tour today was not built until the early nineteenth century.

"What a day our daughter’s wedding was! Terrace View for the ceremony was perfect! It fit our 200 guests leaving a long aisle to admire the wedding party and the bride and her daddy as they made it to the “alter.” Great pictures were taken on the terrace which gave a European feel in downtown Lynchburg. The views from City View and the space for the reception fit our needs to a “T.” Kim coordinated our day like a true professional. She was easy to work with and a great support leading up to the wedding day. Karen and the Repast Catering staff did an excellent job feeding our family and friends! The waffle bar with fixings was delicious! I received many compliments on the food and the presentation! Karen was also easy to work with. She has a lot of knowledge and experience in the catering field making us very comfortable when she told us, “we never run out of food!”
