Happy Father’s Day to big daddy Matt and all the other awesome fathers out there! If you want to know the story behind this photo…. We were photographing a wedding Friday night for Becca and Luther. They brought out this huge fur coat for their magically rainy sunset photos, I got a few with them holding it over each other then asked Matt to hold it while I got some photos without it. When we turned around to see Matt wearing the coat looking like a mob boss we all laughed and had to get a photo.

What is a Story Film? Basically a Time Machine.

It’s one of our favorite services that we offer to our portraits clients (families, seniors, and babies). Yes, we offer cute styled Mini Sessions, Full Photo Sessions, and the Story Photo Sessions (including longer time, more photos, and a few video clips).

The Story Film creates a highlight video of whatever is currently your story. It’s my favorite because our lives change quicker than we often realize and in ten years, the video can transport you right back to the moment it highlights. We’ve had people showcase their everyday normal with their little kids, tell their birth story, tell a high school seniors story/hopes/dreams, or highlight their 80 year old mother and what she means to the family.

Seeing a photo is a memory, watching a video is like being in it again. Like I said, Time Machine.

It’s been a dream of my sister and I to open a boutique filled with all the things we love and all the things to encourage and uplift women. We are 3 1/2 months in and it’s been challenging but so so rewarding!!! We are being stretched. We are having to learn a lot quickly. But we know we can do hard things and it has only served to strengthen and grow our faith.
I just want to encourage you today, if you have a dream in your heart to not fear, and pursue it. Go after it!!!! This life is way too short not to. Fear will keep you comfortable but faith will push you in the best way possible.

Something we started YEARS ago is having reveal sessions for our wedding clients. That is, once their photos are all edited and ready to be delivered, we hav them out to our studio, provide their favorite drinks and snacks, and we watch a slideshow of the best 300-400 photos from their wedding day. It is always so much fun to reminisce the wedding day and tell the stories behind the moments in the photos that the couple missed.

This couple was so cute! Their height difference alone made them fun to photograph.

I wrote this article thinking about Matt, and if he asked me to give him two tips on how to better market his business. This is how I would've answered him:

1. When marketing: tell a story, but don't put your brand in the role of the main character. Your brand should play the role of the trusted advisor to the client playing the role of the main character. I highly recommend reading the book for more details on this tip.

2. Think of one of your BEST friends. What if they came into your workspace and asked what you were working on, how would you tell them? Would you include catchy one liners and clickbait? Probably not. If we write a post like we're talking to our best friend, there's an authenticity that comes through it. I can't speak for everyone, but for myself, I love to see that authenticity. It's powerful and compelling.

The point of marketing is to be noticed; but it can be really difficult to stand out. We get it, we've built our business in a highly saturated industry. Think about it, everyone knows at least 10 photographers. A lot of perseverance, grit, and creative thinking is needed. But, if we can do it, so can you.

Our quaint Mayberry-like town called Mantua (pronounced: Man-ah-way) where everyone knows each other, the high school seniors drive their tractors to school on their last day, roads were graded to help farmers stop loosing potatoes, and there are entire committees of people just wanting to better the place for the good of the community. It's a great place to be and to run our business. If you look closely, you can see our studio sign in the last photo.
