There is a danger in asking for opinions and getting advice when it comes to something as important as how to run your own cake business. The way to destroy your vision is to have two (or more) visions. Good sound advice from experienced fellow Cake Artists who have been in the business (and other business owners) is absolutely great. But, you want to make sure you’re asking someone who REALLY does have your best interest at heart. It’s a sad truth, but not everyone in our industry likes to see others succeed. That’s not a good heart to have, but they are out there unfortunately. And lots of them. People who don’t know anything about the business of cakes and all the hard work involved are always quick to say “You should”, or “Have you tried…?”. The best advice I can personally give you is when you’re not sure how to do something in your business, you need to go be alone, get quiet, and ask God what to do. He knows everything about the business and there’s nobody better to lead you and guide you. He can also direct you to the right people who will be able to help you. All you have to do is ask. Remember, “Ask and you shall receive”. In the years I’ve been doing this there have been a million and one opinions, and a million and one things I didn’t know how to do. But I’ve learned from experience that when I settle down, get rid of all of the noisy opinions from family, friends, (and customers who are looking to pay as little as possible), and listen to the still small voice in my heart (Jesus), He shows me what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. All businesses have ups and downs, but if you keep God at the forefront you’ll have a BIG advantage. As for me and my cake business, opinions come and go, customers come and go, but the one thing that remains steadfast is my reliance on God. Without Him, I wouldn’t know what I know and I wouldn’t be able to do anything that I do. That’s a fact. I just felt somebody needed to read this. If you happen to need help with your cake business or can’t figure out how to do something, feel free to ask in the comment section. I’m happy to answer If I know the answer. I used to offer cake business consultations for a fee, but I’m not doing that anymore. I’m not charging for help or advice anymore I mean. So if you need help with your cake business, just ask me. God has given to me so freely.
