The Garrett County Office of Emergency Management is lifting the travel advisory for January 19, 2025 at 8:00pm.

The heaviest snow has moved through the area. Note: there will be some heavy bands of snow come through Garrett County this evening and travel could still be difficult with increasing winds.

The Garrett County Office of Emergency Management is issuing a travel advisory for January 19, 2025 at 1:30pm.

Current winter weather conditions have deteriorated and are creating significant travel disruptions. Heavy snow is forecasted into the night; 10-12 inches of snow are expected.

We urge everyone to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel. If travel is essential, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready with proper tires, emergency kits, and cold weather supplies.

We will update this status when conditions improve.

❄️❄️Here is the latest update from Garrett County OEM / 911 Communications. Stay safe through the storm. ❄️❄️

PLEASE READ THE DETAILS BELOW:

Snow is expected to begin in Western Maryland on Sunday January 5th. Amounts of 12-18” are expected in Southern Garrett County with 8-12” expected in Northern Garrett County.

There is potential for up to 25” of snow in some isolated areas in the county.

The heaviest snow will be from Monday morning from 2AM – 10AM. Expect 2-3” per hour snow fall rates during this time frame.

🚨* Should you experience a power outage and/or lack of ability to heat your residence, warming stations and shelters will be available for emergency situations. *🚨

The Emergency Operations Center should be contacted at 301-334-7280 for any sheltering or warming stations needs at the following locations:

-Deer Park Community VFD
-Southern Garrett Rescue Company 9
-Accident Volunteer Fire Department

Radar valid at 403 pm EST, Jan 4th 2025..WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM SUNDAY TO 6 AM EST TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations between 7 and 10 inches, with amounts of 12 to 14 inches possible in isolated spots if heavy banding sets up in this area.

* WHERE...In Maryland, Extreme Western Allegany and Garrett Counties. In West Virginia, Western Grant and Western Mineral Counties.

* WHEN...From 10 PM Sunday to 6 AM EST Tuesday. Highest snowfall rates occur overnight Sunday into early Monday morning. Snow may mix with sleet and freezing rain Monday morning into the afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A second round of heavy snow is possible Monday evening before precipitation ends.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help
you survive in case you become stranded.
