THANK YOU! π«Ά
We'd like to thank those in our amazing community who generously support the Van Zandt First Responders Fund through donations or by participating in fundraising events like the Daddy/Mommy & Me Dances or Jr. Firefighter Day Camps.
Because of your support, we were able to make a donation to the Myrtle Springs Volunteer Fire Dept to assist with the purchase of new equipment and training so they can best serve the wonderful community of Myrtle Springs.
We are so blessed to be able to give back to our local First Responders who work so hard to keep our community safe π Thank you for your service to the community, Myrtle Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Learn more about the Van Zandt First Responders Fund ‡οΈ
In May of 2018, The Silver Spur Resort started the Van Zandt County First Responders Fund. The fund was set up to assist Van Zandt County First Responders and the local departments with any equipment or provide donations for equipment for the first responders to serve the community members in the most effective way possible.
While we understand that the majority of the departments have a budget, much of the equipment that is needed is very expensive and not always in the current budget. This fund was designed with that in mind, to help in times of need.
The fund also keeps a percentage of monetary donations in the account to help in case a first responder ever gets hurt or killed in the line of duty. This monetary donation would go to the family, should they need assistance. Not only will the fund provide donations to a family in need who has lost a loved one in the line of duty who was serving Van Zandt County, it will also help first responders should they have an immediate need for assistance due to a tragic event or other circumstances.
The officers of the fund are Jack Woodward, President; Carrie Young, Treasurer; and Misty Roberts, Secretary. Board members are Jake Smith, David Birdsong, Denise Daugherty and honorary board member Stephanie Smith.
Since the fund was established, the fund has donated to our local game wardens for equipment; Canton PD equipment and a bite suit for Canton PD K-9; Wills Point PD K-9 for a bite suit and the find has made 2 monetary donations to two first responders in need. This past summer (2023) we have delivered snacks and drinks to county first responders with the help of our community donations.
As of right now we have 2 fundraisers a year, which includes our Daddy and Me/Mommy and Me dance and a Jr. fire camp in the summer put on by David Birdsong and South Van Zandt Fire Department.
We recognized that Myrtle Springs Volunteer Fire Department was needing assistance and donations. After talking with Brandon Corbett and Lonnie Smith, we discovered that they need new equipment, a new fire station, new trucks, and many other things to be able to volunteer and to help and serve the community. The fund wanted to make a donation to help towards their goals. Myrtle Springs VFD has had several individuals contact them to donate, but will need a lot more community help and donations. Anyone that would like to help or donate can contact [email protected].
