One of my biggest challenges as a Business Owner was:

You won’t be able to grow your business until you start creating face to face conversations again📣

Some can use social media as their “only” way they grow their business while I can differ!

One of the most controversial topics is how to market your business and while social media is one of the keys that opens the door to business growth and expansion, it’s not the only key 🔑

🔑 I'm heavily into social media. I've covered the space countless times; I post multiple times on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn each day; and, I encourage people to use social nets as a way to do low-cost marketing for their company.

🔑 At the same time, I'm not so enamored by the technology that I think it can completely replace your marketing efforts. It can augment them, sure.

🔑 In some cases, a plain old printed brochure you hand out at a conference or a really slick business card will win you more customers than anything in digital form.

‼️Please keep making those promotional videos and post them on YouTube for the world to see, and let us know about them on Twitter or Instagram, but don't let that become the only marketing you do.

🔑It's too easy to think of the "new" as the "only" when it comes to marketing. I recommend you use the same strategy for IT security as you do for marketing: be open to any strategy and deploy several.

Here are 4 tips on how to prepare for your eyelash extension service:

1. If you wear waterproof mascara, discontinue use 3 days prior to your appointment.

The compounds in these products will remain on the lashes, even after properly cleansing.
This will prevent the extension adhesive from properly bonding and you may experience premature lash loss.

2. Arrive with a freshly clean face and impeccably clean lashes.

Residual oils and makeup remaining on the lashes will only prevent the adhesive from properly bonding.
This point needs to be stressed - do not arrive still wearing eye makeup.
Your lash stylist should not be spending more than a few minutes cleansing and prepping your lashes for the service.
It is a waste of her skill time and a waste of your money.
Less cleaning. More time. More lashes.
It is absolutely acceptable to wear facial and brow makeup. Book your appointment first thing in the morning if you must wear eye makeup for the day.

3. Arrive freshly showered and with clean hair. You won't be able to wet the lashes for the initial 24 hours after application.

A compound found in all lash adhesives, cyanoacrylate, needs humidity to properly cure. TOO MUCH humidity will shock the adhesive and cause premature lash loss.
Showers, steam, saunas, and crying are not permitted for the initial 24-48 hours after application.
(Personal tip: I shower and wash my hair the morning before an appointment and take a bath for the next 2 days.)

4. NO CAFFEINE

Please do not drink any caffeine before your appointment. Drinking caffeine prior to your appointment will make your eyes twitch which makes it difficult to work with. This could cause delay in the lash appreciating.

While I’d love for everyone to buy my work, I know that that’s not always possible.

I know this is true of other small businesses as well. I often love another makers work unfortunately , not all the time I’m able to support them with a purchase. This doesn’t mean I can’t support them in another way though.

Some of the best ways I’ve found to support other small businesses are:

✅ 1. Share about them with your friends!
Word of mouth recommendations are still some of the best ways to share with others. Even when I'm unable to purchase an item, I offer my favorite local products as gift ideas to others.

✅ 2. Follow their social channels, sign up for their newsletter, and engage with them.
This could be liking, commenting, or resharing their work with credit. Engaging with an artist online helps broaden their reach to others and brightens their day. Whenever someone leaves an encouraging comment or signs up for my newsletter, I do a little happy dance.💃🏽

✅ 3. Be supportive and encouraging.
This might sound silly, but many artists, like myself, work in isolation. I often have no idea if my art will sell, if my new pieces will be a hit or a flop, and question what I’m doing all the time. Hearing a few words of encouragement helps me know I’m on the right track and that even though I enjoy what I’m doing, others do too.

✅ 4. Don't ask for free or discounted items.
Not all artists can afford to run a sale or offer their products at a discount. Please acknowledge that the price they've set for their goods is what they need to make a living to support their families. I rarely offer sales or discounts because hand lashes, balloon decor and nails takes hours of work from the ideation to the creation phase. While some services are expensive, I've also found a pricing formula that allows me to sell my work.

✅ 5. Buy from them when you can.
Even a small purchase brightens a makers day. As a maker, it's hard to break through the internet and people's daily lives to gain awareness for your brand and products. When you acknowledge another makers hard work with a purchase—even if it's a small one—it means the world to us!

It is no secret that the social media frenzy has become out of control and studies are now showing that social media use can lead to depression, low self-esteem, body image issues, anxiety, social isolation, and the list goes on.

It can even perpetuate eating disorders and self-harm behaviors. On the flip side, social media can bring communities together and can be an engaging platform to meet new friends however the balance can be easily skewed.

But we all know social media is a tiny sliver of reality, the best of the best days and in a way, a falsified image that we want to portray to others. 😵‍💫

So should we just take a long purge? 🧐

Delete our social media altogether? 🧐

Or cut back and limit our screen time? 🧐🧐

At times I have thought about deleting my own personal social media accounts, giving myself a break from the distractions, spending more time engaging with people in real life and diving in deeper to my career. 🥳🥳

Although I have not fully taken the plunge, I do go on social media breaks quite often and I strive to make more of an effort to stay off my phone, especially when I am adventuring in the outdoors or spending time with people in real life who I care about. 😎💁🏽‍♀️💁🏽‍♀️😎

Below are some tips and tricks (that actually work) that I use to break away from social media:

✅ Put your phone down and out of reach

I often find that if my phone is in another room, then I won’t have the urge to grab it.

✅ Set limits by tracking your social media time

There are tons of apps out there that can track your social media time and help monitor and control how much time you spend on Facebook and Instagram.

✅ Turn off notifications and set virtual boundaries

Turn off all social media notifications on your phone so you don’t feel triggered to check your Instagram or whenever you receive a new notification.

✅ Set “phone free zones”

Pick areas in your home where you are not allowed to be on your phone.

✅ Schedule “social media free days”

Maybe it is every Sunday or maybe it is the entire weekend where you actively decided not to check or engage on social media

Sure, your life isn’t perfect.. but trust me, your lashes will stay perfect!
Follow these steps:
1. Keep Them Dry
Avoid getting them wet for the first 12-24 hours. This will give the adhesive time to fully set and adhere to your lash line. In addition to this, we also recommend that you avoid steamy atmospheres for the first 48 hours.
2. Sleep on Your Back
Many health professionals recommend sleeping on your back to reduce pressure on your shoulders and spine but sleeping on your back is also good for your lashes!
3. Clean and Brush Them
For your lashes to last, it is crucial that you clean and brush them daily. Make sure to wash your lashes (wash them and your face) even if you have not been wearing makeup. When cleaning them it is also important to use an oil-free cleanser such as our Foaming Cleanser. This is because Oil will break down the lash adhesive very rapidly and cause your extensions to fall out faster than they should.
4. Being Gentle is Key
The less you mess with your lashes, the better! Avoid tugging, rubbing, or plucking them. Of course, you are a human and not a robot. Therefore, you are bound to get an itch around your eyes eventually. We get it. In the event of an itch, try to make it a habit to run a brush through your lashes instead of rubbing them. Your extensions are bonded to your natural lashes with very strong glue and pulling them off may also pull out your natural lash.
5. Schedule Regular Fills
Your natural lashes shed daily and the extensions will shed right along with them. To keep your lashes looking fabulous you will need regular fills, about every two weeks.

How to Prepare for your Lash Appointment 📣1. If you wear waterproof mascara, discontinue use 3 days prior to your appointment. The compounds in these products will remain on the lashes, even after properly cleansing.This will prevent the extension adhesive from properly bonding and you may experience premature lash loss. 📣2. Arrive with a freshly clean face and impeccably clean lashes. Residual oils and makeup remaining on the lashes will only prevent the adhesive from properly bonding. This point needs to be stressed - do not arrive still wearing eye makeup. Your lash stylist should not be spending more than a few minutes cleansing and prepping your lashes for the service. It is a waste of her skill time and a waste of your money. Less cleaning. More time. More lashes. It is absolutely acceptable to wear facial and brow makeup. Book your appointment first thing in the morning if you must wear eye makeup for the day. 📣3. Arrive freshly showered and with clean hair. You won't be able to wet the lashes for the initial 24 hours after application. A compound found in all lash adhesives, cyanoacrylate, needs humidity to properly cure. TOO MUCH humidity will shock the adhesive and cause premature lash loss. Showers, steam, saunas, and crying are not permitted for the initial 24-48 hours after application.
