Meet our second Miami DanceMaker: Erika Loyola () 💃

Erika Loyola is a Miami-based dance educator, choreographer and performer born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Erika graduated at the institution of Danza Raymond Mauve Thoniel in 2007. She danced professionally for Dance Star and as Dance Director of Start Tools for the urbana entertainment industry in Ecuador.
In 2011, Erika moved to Miami and continued her education to obtain an Associate of Arts Degree from Miami Dade College. She danced professionally with Jubilation Dance Ensemble, Olujimi Dance Collective under the direction of Michelle Grant Murray. Erika was selected for the visual landscape of the (Re)current Unrest film for Charles Anderson’s work and Grass Stains with Pioneer Winter 2024. She has been a Florida Dance teacher for the past ten years. Erika is certified as Reiki Master and as an intercultural dance educator from Nuestras Raices Foundation and International Dance Council CID UNESCO. She presented her last work and three Ecuadorian Intercultural Dances at the Asociación Ecuatoriana in Atlanta in 2022 and 2024. Erika is a teaching artist for Arts for Learning Miami and FIU since 2022 and loves educating through dance.

Today we’d like to highlight our resident Miami DanceMaker Artists! First up: Cecilia Benitez✨
()

Cecilia Benitez is a freelance dancer, educator, and choreographer based in Miami, Florida. She dances for Adele Myers and Dancers, Rosie Herrera Dance Theater, and Syncopate Collective. Her work has been commissioned by Miami Individual Artists Grant, Miami Light Project’s Here and Now Program, Bistoury Physical Theatre and Film, Mutual Dance Theatre, and most recently Miami DanceMakers. She often uses writing, improvisation scores, and the unearthing of memories in the creation of her works. As a practitioner of joy inside and outside the studio, Ceci hopes to create dances that inspire a more vibrant world.

📍As an artist-in-residence at The Moss Center, Ceci has been given the opportunity to create her newest duet, “Cielo de Cariño”. This work is an invitation into a utopia created by personal mythologies, world-building, and collective care. “Cielo de Cariño” provides a space for reflection, allowing viewers to envision a world shaped by hopes and dreams.
