Meet Melissa, our new HR Manager at Saz's Hospitality! We put Melissa in the hot seat to get to know her a little better:

What inspired career in HR:

- Having seen all sides of the employee experience - both as a business owner, and as an employee navigating both positive and challenging work environments - I have a deep appreciation for the impact that a workplace can have on people's lives. I want to be involved in fostering one of those good environments and I realize the responsibility that comes with that. We spend so much of our lives at work, and I believe people should feel happy, valued and fulfilled in that time. If I can contribute to building a workplace where the majority of employees feel that way, I have done my job.

What excites me about joining Saz's:

- The legacy of the company.... Saz's has been a Milwaukee staple since the 1970s and I am proud to join the team that brings people together over good memories and sampler platters.

What’s your approach to fostering a positive workplace environment?

- Building and maintaining relationships with individuals across all levels of the organization. I want employees to feel comfortable coming to me—not just about work-related concerns, but to share their lives and interests. Having experienced my own moments of uncertainty about where to turn for support in the workplace, I’m committed to fostering an HR team that employees can rely on for genuine care and empathy. Our goal is to ensure every Saz's team member feels heard, valued, and supported to the fullest extent of our abilities.

What’s a piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out in HR?

- Adopt the mindset of "say less, listen more" - because listening is where the magic happens. By giving others space to guide the conversation, you allow them to truly express what's important to them. When people feel like you're truly listening and engaged they are more likely to open up and provide valuable insights.

Sofia wears many hats at Saz’s: Banquet Captain, Server, and Marketing Intern. 🎩 From making fun, engaging content for our socials to meticulously organizing our wedding and event photos, her creativity and dedication shine through every project she tackles. ✨

One of her most surprising discoveries? The magic of a room flip! Having started as a server nearly four years ago, she’s amazed by how a small team can transform a venue into something stunning in under an hour. 🪄💫

As she continues her internship, Sofia is excited to push her creativity further, keeping up with the latest trends to connect with our audiences in exciting new ways. 🎨📱
