Lets all manifest beautiful, breezy weather this weekend! 🖤 We have 15 amazing vendors waiting for you, with new and exciting wares they'll be slingin' from 11AM to 5PM.

Over the next few days, we'll be sharing some of the gorgeous and ghoulish faces 👻 you can expect to see joining us this upcoming weekend. We're so excited to be pulling some new-to-us artists out of our vendor list for all of you to see.

MIDSOMMAR IS ALMOST HERE! 🖤🌸💕🌺🖤 and with that is our final vendor feature for this Saturday. Mrs. E’s is a fan favorite of ours and she will be hanging out with us all weekend long. 😈

She’s been working her fingers to the bone baking beautiful and scrumptious floral yums for us. She’ll be offering gluten free pistachio cookies with edible floral arrangements. She will also be offering her glorious focaccia, and four different home made pretzels.

How are we so blessed?! Come out and tell Jackie how much we appreciate all the hard work she’s been putting in by snagging some of these treats for yourself. 🖤

As a reminder, we will be at Urban Growler Brewing Company from 2PM - 8PM soaking up the sunshine. Come listen to tunes, sip on some tasty bevvies, and have some delicious foods.

6:00PM - 7:00PM: A Sunken Ship Irony

You’ll have time to make a loop of all the makers, get your bevvies and maybe a bite to eat, and hang out before music starts, after it ends, and in between acts. I think we have a really great but also fairly diverse lineup for you tomorrow. 🖤

We are S T O K E D to be announcing that in a surprise turn of events, Witchway Tarot will be joining us during both events of our double creature feature this weekend! 😱🖤

Al offers accessibly priced three card pulls and an assortment of other items at their table, including little spell kits and handmade paintings. Honestly, it’s quite a vibe and we’re grateful to be graces by their presence once more. 👻

The rumors were true! Ya girl got to swing into this evening to try their Society Brunch exclusive cocktail, the Red Rum. 🥀

Per 11 Wells, the Red Rum is: “A delightfully sweet cocktail with a bit of decadence and just a hint of Allspice. The RedRum features our award winning Aged Boiler Room Rum, Cherry Liqueur, cranberry juice and a dash of Allspice Liqueur. Only available on the first Sunday of every month during the Society for the Strange and Unusual Society Brunch Markets.”

Not mentioned: the aggressively stabbed cherry 😈 for appropriate murderous intent.

AHH! We are just under four days away from our next Society Brunch at 😱 Where has the time gone?!

Today we are featuring 🖤 Astralchemy is one of our resident electroforming artists. Her work is equal parts creepy and elegant, combining copper, gemstones and taxidermy. Swipe left to see some of the gorgeous pieces she’ll be bringing with her this Sunday.

While she is not under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella herself, her daughter is! Here is what she has to say about her ally ship and how it influences her craft:

With Art-a-Whirl 2023 in the books for all of our amazing vendors, we are now quickly approaching our second-ever Society Brunch at 😈 As a reminder, this month we are bringing you a host of colorful and q***r vendors to celebrate Pride month!

Today we are spotlighitng Wileflowers - in her own words, here is how her q***rness influences her work:

“My art is based on the premise of making what you can with what you have, a scrapy way of doing things, right out of q***r feminism. The idea isn't to wait until the circumstances are perfect to start, but to use sticks, dirt, whatever and simply begin. I don't believe in perfection so as I make everything by hand I work to celebrate that my final product is unique, imperfect by someone's standards, but perfect and beautiful to me.”

We are finally hard-launching the long-awaited, and long-overdue Midsommar Makers Market application! 🖤🌸🖤 Many of you have already applied, which we are so excited about! Co-hosts be co-hostin’ 😈🖤

We figure it might be time to introduce ourselves. 👻 if you’re a regular attendee of our spooky markets, you probably recognize us already! If you’re brand new, or a brand new vendor - hi! Nice to meet you.

We are Edie Rose (.makes.things) and AnnaBOMBB (), two alternative visual artists based out of Northeast, Minneapolis.

Anna’s work draws heavy inspiration from pop art and horror elements, mixing both together with striking neon colors and dynamic shapes to create a style that is uniquely AnnaBOMBB. She is currently in grad school pursuing a social work degree.

Edie’s work is a mix of galactic inspiration and dark fantasy. She is known for her “planet head” paintings and her signature color story of neons and rainbows married to stark, contrasting colors. Edie Makes Things is her full-time pursuit, and you can find her every weekend bopping around the metro at art markets and craft fairs.

We have been friends for a full ten years, and have gone from garage sales to gallery events together. Our events are the culmination of a one-off idea: a holiday market for artists like us, giving alternative shoppers a place to purchase offbeat, handmade, local items for their similarly weird loved ones.

We are so excited to keep bringing you events through the Society for the Strange and Unusual. 🖤 And we are grateful for all of you every day.

Rose & Ristola is the side business of our cohost, .makes.things and their business partner, - Rose & Ristola as a unit focus on providing sustainable, ethical, and repurposed metaphysical tools to help budding witch’s along in their practice. Their hero item is their bath teas 🛁, which are all hand crafted with clear intention in upcycled jars hand-picked by Edie and Adrien.

The Uncanny Potter is a local potter from St. Paul, Minnesota. They specialize in creating weird wares that are both functional and peculiar! Aspen also creates art dolls inspired by Coraline.

Please excuse the late post! Ya gal has been ghoulin’ about all day 👻 and I am just getting home now. Today we are highlighting .vincent.plouff and - both new additions to the Society for the Strange & Unusual vendor list who will be joining us for our debut this Sunday!

Siri is an q***r, radical witch that has been practicing for 20 years. They are the host of the Heathen’s Journey podcast and co-author of the tarot workbook, Lessons from the Empress. Siri will be offering a variety of metaphysical, house-made items! ✨

Tara creates beautiful and unique cyanotype pieces using natural and floral elements to create beautiful and striking designs. 🥀💙

ARE YOU STILL LOOKING FOR A SPOT FOR ART-A-WHIRL?! 🌪️ The JacFlats Artspace is looking to host a wide variety of artists and vendors to ring the 28th Annual Art-a-Whirl in, in style. Art-a-Whirl is the largest open studio tour in the country, which happens throughout Northeast Minneapolis the third weekend of every May.

This year, Art-a-Whirl will take place:
Friday, 5/19 from 5PM - 10PM.
Saturday, 5/20 from 12PM - 8PM.
Sunday, 5/21 from 12PM - 5PM.

We are hoping to prioritize visual artists for this event, BUT if you are a vendor that feels you can add a unique touch to our event PLEASE apply anyway! IF you have an interactive element you can incorporate into our booth, or you are an interactive artist completely, we want you! We are currently in the process of lining up food trucks, other demonstrations, and live music.

Things to know before applying: we are asking for a full Friday-Sunday commitment from all of our vendors. We are offering both indoor and outdoor spaces for a $150 flat-rate table fee, which covers all three days of participation. Other details can be found in the application form below:

If you already have a space, or aren’t artsy yourself, but you know someone who would be a great fit for the event - send them our way!

Applications will close on 4/26 and vendor selections will be sent out on 5/3.

APRIL GHOULS!!! 💚👻🖤

That’s right - our next makers market is coming up fast. We are so excited to be back (for the last time for awhile!) at the on 4/1 to bring you the next installment in our spooktacular shindigs. We are once more bringing you a host of unique makers, bakers, movers and shakers slinging variety of ghastly and ghoulish wares.

Shenanigans begin at 12PM sharp! We will be hanging out listening to your favorite alternative and emo tunes 🎶, sippin’ on complimentary cocktails (rumor has it they will be sparkly this time around - and even that we will have some NA beverages available as well) 🍹, sampling delicious baked goods, and having a grand ol’ time til 6PM. The Society for the Strange and Unusual is a collaborative effort between .makes.things & to host elder emo, grown goth, and alternative adult makers markets and vendor events.

We have successfully hosted The Nightmare Before Christmas Holiday Market(s), My Bloody Valentine: Valentine’s Day Market, and are currently upcoming our next market: April Ghouls Day Makers Market!
