J-Bird” is a pivotal figure in the independent hip-hop scene, serving as the President of Live Events at Rhymesayers Entertainment and co-founder of the renowned Soundset Festival.
His journey began in Chicago, where he co-founded Ch’rewd Entertainment, a street marketing and promotion company while attending Columbia College. After graduation, he co-created “Caught In The Middle Magazine” in 1994, focusing on the underground hip-hop culture. During his time in Chicago, he also started Birdcage Management, an artist management and touring company.
In 2000, J-Bird relocated to Minneapolis to join Rhymesayers Entertainment working with such artists: Atmosphere, Eyedea & Abilities and MF DOOM.
At Rhymesayers, J-Bird played a crucial role in expanding the label’s influence, particularly through live events. In 2008, he co-founded the Soundset Festival, which grew into one of the largest single-day hip-hop festivals globally, attracting attendees from all 50 U.S. states and numerous countries.
In the last 25 years with Rhymesayers, J-Bird continues his passion of working with artists, releasing their music and touring the world bringing people together with the art of live entertainment.
