Gosh darn do we miss these breathtaking landscapes, endless trails (with a splash of road), and the grit of every runner who took on this epic challenge. Each mile was a story of perseverance, community, and the raw power of nature. Here's to the incredible athletes who embraced this run!

Moab 240 | Day 6

The last official finisher of the 2023 Moab 240 is Grant Walker, in 115 hours, 44 minutes, and 37 seconds.

200 miles is really far. 240 miles is even farther, and our course this year featured an extra 13 miles and an additional 4000ft of elevation gain (the previous course was measured with older GPS technology, so it is now a true 240 miles with these changes). All that to say, it was harder than ever to reach that finish line, and we are so impressed with everyone who did.

We would also like to acknowledge all of our runners who toed the line but didn’t make it back to Moab within the cutoffs. These races are never guaranteed, and there are so many variables that play into the outcomes. The only thing we can control is how we show up, and you did that. You really did show up, and we are so proud of you for getting out there and giving it your best shot.

Well done, everyone. That’s a wrap on the 2023 race season for us. Thank you all for being part of it!

Moab 240 | Day 5

But which way to the finish line?

We are heading into the very last night of Moab 240. Wild to think that these runners have been moving since midday on Friday, and some of them still have one more night to get through. 🫣

Our 116 hour cutoff is 8am tomorrow morning. Come join us at the finish line in Moab at 7am for breakfast as we cheer in our final runners. All are welcome!

Moab 240 | Day 5

…while we were sleeping, they were still out there working.

We’ve got 21 hours left in this race, and runners will be finishing right up until the last minutes. The nights have been long and cold, but we are just so inspired by the pure resilience being displayed out there. You’re making us proud, runners 🥹.

For those of you in Moab, join us at 7am MST tomorrow morning at the finish line for golden hour and a celebratory breakfast. All are welcome!

In a time of 87 hours, 32 minutes, and 25 seconds, our 2nd place female at Moab 240 is Anne Tisdell. Anne ran a smart race, moving steadily up through the field into 2nd place, despite a navigational error that had her backtracking an extra 3 miles (6 miles total) to get back on track. Congrats on putting together such an amazing race, Anne!

10/17/2023

The winner of our women’s race at 2023 Moab 240, in a time of 86 hours, 18 minutes, and 33 seconds, is the one and only Sally McRae. She is also the female winner of the 2023 Triple Crown, with her combined finish time at Tahoe, Bigfoot, and now Moab.

It has been incredible to watch Sally dig deep for these 200 mile finishes, battling awful foot issues at each race that threatened to derail her, and yet she somehow found a way to keep moving forward no matter what. We are so stoked for you on your win Sally — way to choose strong.

Moab 240 | Day 4

It’s a real vibe out there, after 75 long hours of running in the Moab desert. We’ve got our top runners finishing today, and it’s exciting to watch them crush this course — but we are also absolutely here for the whole journey of every single runner out there who is battling towards that finish line.

Let’s keep cheering everyone on, as they face down their fourth night out in those cold desert temps. You can do this thing.

Our third place male at the 2023 Moab 240, in 73 hours, 58 minutes and 39 seconds, is Aaron Kubala. This is his first 200 mile finish, and he says his secret to getting through the race was “a LOT of dirt naps.” Well done on your podium finish, Aaron!

10/16/2023

Our 2nd place finisher at the Moab 240, in 70 hours, 53 minutes, and 16 seconds, is Jeff Pelletier from Canada, finishing just minutes behind first place Jesse Haynes. He worked his way up in the field from about 15th before the halfway mark, and then he ended up in a race for first place for the last 100 miles of the race…which is a very long time to run neck-in-neck for.

What’s also remarkable is that both Jesse and Jeff ran the last 40 miles without pacers, so it truly was a battle between who could push harder after 70 hours of running. What a race! Congratulations on your finish, Jeff.

And the winner of our 2023 Moab 240 mile race, in 70 hours, 47 minutes and 49 seconds, is Jesse Haynes from California.

The course featured some changes this year, with the addition of a 13 mile section and 4000ft of additional climbing (at altitude) thrown into the mix to make things even more interesting. This was arguably the closest battle between first and second place that we’ve ever seen at one of our races, as Jesse fought for the last 100 miles to keep his lead, with second place finisher Jeff Pelletier less than a mile behind. What a race! Congrats on your hard fought victory, Jesse.

Brought to you by Destination Trail team, organizers of the Tahoe 200 & Bigfoot 200. Stephen Jones Memorial Run The Moab 200 was the dream of the late Stephen Jones, one of the first 200 mile racers in the USA. Jones of Salt Lake City, UT died in an avalanche in February 2016 leaving behind a family and two young children as well as a grief struck running community. Before he died, he dreamed up the route for the Moab 200. The route is based off his original vision which he shared with Candice Burt, Race Director of the first non-repetitive 200s in the USA (Tahoe 200 Endurance Run in CA/NV and Bigfoot 200 Endurance Run in Washington State) and the Race Organizer for the Moab 200. The Moab 240 hopes to honor Jones’ adventurous spirit and to bring to life his vision of a world class 200+ miler in Utah while honoring his memory. Stephen loved Utah more than anywhere in the world and it was his vision to bring people from all over the world together to experience the incredible beauty and challenge of this mountain and desert environment.
