Kinda missing my winter veggie garden. I planted so many spring flowers that I didn’t save much space for veggies. Today’s objective: find space to squeeze in a quick crop.

Since we’re finally getting a hard freeze tonight I thought I’d snip some of my eucalyptus branches and see how they dry.

This particular variety has lengthy leaves so I wasn’t sure if I should hang them upside down or leave them right-side up. I’ll try it both ways to see which I like most.

To do: create a space for drying stems and flowers, because my mud room is not a great solution.

🌷Starting Tulip Bulbs at Pretty Wild Farm! 🌷

It’s tulip time in Southeast Texas! Here at Pretty Wild Farm, we’re kicking off a fun winter project: planting tulip bulbs. These beauties bring a burst of vibrant spring color when our temps start to warm up in Feb and March.

Here’s how we’re doing it:
✨ Pre-chilled Bulbs: Tulips need a “winter” to bloom, so we pre-chill our bulbs for 8-10 weeks.
✨ Well-Drained Soil: We place the bulbs into a loose, rich soil mix to keep bulbs happy and healthy. I’m testing out crates this year too!
✨ Succession Planting: Planting bulbs at staggered intervals but likely won’t make much of an impact given how quickly the warm temps arrive in late Winter / early Spring.

As winter is winding down, these will burst with color, making a perfect bouquet for tables, desks, night stands or as gifts. If you’re local, keep an eye out—these might just pop up in your local market soon!

🌸 A Mum-ent to Shine 🌸

These gorgeous heirloom chrysanthemums came from cuttings offered by Dani Boss at Summer Skye Gardens earlier this year, and WOW—just look at them now! The soft golden tones and purple-pinks are absolutely perfect for the fall season 🍂💛.

I’m obsessed with these mums, and they’ve inspired me to grow even more next year. Picture these beauties making their way into our fall bouquets at Pretty Wild Farm!

I can’t wait to share more updates as we plan to bring even more seasonal blooms to your bouquets. Who’s excited to see mums like these in your future arrangements?

I’ve never grown roses until this year. I ordered 9 David Austin bare root roses this past Spring.
They did okay but definitely didn’t perform to their full potential and it’s my fault.
A few notes:
1) my husband accidentally mowed down 2 of them but they’re still green and put on a bi of new growth. I think they might survive…tbd
2) I think I’ll need to move them to where they aren’t blasted so hard by the Texas sun ALL. DAY. LONG. Some shade in the late afternoon might do the trick.
3) They need more water and attention if I want them to be cut flower quality

Any pointers for growing roses in Zone 9a Texas are happily welcomed.
