We got a couple of cute little watermelons taking off. The seedling was getting shaded too much by some monster basil plants that I ripped out a few weeks ago so now this lil fella is pretty happy.

Last week I took a little vacation with my husband and while I was away I lost hundreds of seedlings I had been lovin on for the past few weeks. I just didn’t have time to get them in the ground before I left so I had to come to terms with my poor planning 😭
I still have a small patch that’s in bloom and it’s beautiful. I’ll be getting a lot more seeds started soon and see what we can squeeze in before first frost.

Today's rain was like a refreshing cocktail for my flowers - they're now tipsy on color and ready to party. The hues are so saturated, it's like someone turned up the vibrancy k**b to eleven, and just in time for September's fashionably late arrival.

Stay tuned for a moody bouquet bonanza in late September, October, and November - think of it as the floral world's version of a dramatic plot twist.

A little premature with the darker autumn colors but I planted these to let them bloom out in the garden and enjoy.

These are super low maintenance and that’s exactly what I need right now.

Thank you to everyone that came out and got some local flowers today 🩷

Don’t forget to change the water daily and if you have time also trim the stems for the longest vase life. Toss individual flowers as they wilt so they don’t muddy up the water for the rest of them.

It’s not always pretty things ALL the time. We don’t use harsh chemical pesticides so I’m on the lookout usually multiple times a day for pesky critters like these. This is a new growing space so the ecosystem isn’t quite in natural balance yet but I should see it slowly improve each year.

During summer in Texas the pests are abundant and that’s one of the reasons you might see some local commercial flower growers slow down a bit during July and August.

For the larger bugs, I simply put on a pair of gloves and handle them but for the tiny ones like you see here, I get a cup of water with a bit of dish soap in it and I dunk the plant into the cup to clear them off the leaves.
