Our brand new Boathouse on the lakefront of beautiful Nettle Lake is now taking event reservations for 2025 & 2026! Book a wonderful and AFFORDABLE, family reunion, graduation party, corporate event or waterfront wedding and reception at The Boathouse! If your event is for a reception/wedding or a Friday or Saturday, it is a flat rate of $2,000 for the entire day. Any other day we offer it at $100 per hour with a four hour minimum. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drink at no additional cost and all of the tables, chairs and giant bar are included as well! Add one of our gorgeous lakefront vacation homes and make a stay out of it!

Well we are coming into that time of the year where my wife starts to record ALL of the Hallmark Christmas schedule and I begin looking for the perfect tree to hide under and never come back into the house! Hi everyone! This post is a bit long winded so I apologize in advance. I encourage you to grab a glass of "loud mouth soup" while reading along. I promise it will make this less painful to read! So I'm sure a lot of people already know this but in my house Sue begins watching the Hallmark Christmas channel on November 1st and it doesn't stop until sometime in late February. So my misery starts early and ends late! I can only watch so many Hallmark Christmas movies that ALL have the same storyline......A woman passing through a small town crashes into a snowbank but is pulled from her car by a handsome stranger (a washed up Hollywood actor who's previous claim to fame was appearing as a stunt double for Kramer in the Soup N**i episode), anyway....because of her crashing into a snowbank, she has also lost her memory and does not know who she is but fortunately for her the handsome stranger (B list actor) is actually a famous neurologist who has come back home to save his hometown of 200 people who's entire existence depends on the town's 100 year old candy factory that makes that nasty candy corn that absolutely nobody eats! So fast forward 30 days in the movie and our handsome neurologist has fixed this chick's brain to the point where she remembers she is actually the corporate buyer for Walmart and she convinces Walmart to purchase the town's only source of income, the nasty candy corn factory, and they save the town and Christmas! (Six months later Walmart sells off the factory and the town because Walmart realizes the town sits on a huge oil reserve but that part didn't make it into the script). So anyway.....I forgot why I created this post to begin with??? Oh yeah... The Boathouse at Nettle Lake. So when Sue and I took on this project our goal was to create a beautiful but affordable venue for families to host their events without having to mortgage their homes (or candy factory). We feel we are headed in the right direction! The families who have hosted events at The Boathouse have been very complimentary about their experience and we will continue to build on that momentum and make every effort to never let anyone down!
And then one Sunday afternoon last Fall while out on the pontoon boat and too many beers deep, the suggestion was made that we should serve food on the weekends that were not booked with private events. Well Sue and I never back away from a challenge or a "double dog dare you" moment so we decided we were gonna make pizzas for the neighbors and visitors of Nettle Lake. Not a problem at all until we realized that the only pizza either of us had ever made before were those frozen Totino's $.99 pizzas after a night at Consaul Tavern in East Toledo in the 80's. Didn't exactly qualify us as pizza experts. So we did what all old East Siders do, we stole other people's ideas! We made a list of our favorite pizza joints around Toledo and we went to work figuring out what we liked about each place (we even dumpster dived) and then we put all the parts together and The Boathouse Pizza Co. was born. We sent the first pizza through our brand new oven and it literally caught fire. Not just an overcooked bottom crust. No it went up in flames and we had to put the fire out. But we didn't give up and we sacrificed quite a few more pizzas before we became comfortable with the process and The Big Sexy was born! So this brings me to the point of this book and your glass has got to be empty by now anyway. Sue and I did not expect The Boathouse Pizza Co. to take off like it did. It is a very pleasant surprise and so our goal now this Fall and Winter are to figure out how to marry the businesses together so that we are not letting folks down. We want folks to have a better handle on our hours of operation so that they don't have to guess. We are going to consider bringing in some help so that we can expand our hours in the Spring and Summer months however we will NEVER just sit at home while the business is operating. That's not in our DNA. If we can't do it correctly, we won't do it all. So thank you everyone for your support! We are gonna figure this out! And don't forget to try our new candy corn pizza coming out in the Spring of 2025!

Good morning! We have had some folks who have asked if Sue would be interested in making her Hungarian kolbász and selling it by the pound? We know families like to enjoy it in the Fall and around the holidays so we thought we would put the idea out there. Would folks be interested in ordering some homemade, uncooked kolbasz? We will judge the interest and perhaps make up a giant batch in the near future! Stay tuned!

***Saturday Aug 31st we will be serving from 5-7pm and then pizza by the slice after 7pm for the event.

Saturday August 31st from 7pm-10pm we will be hosting an 80's-90's throwback. We will have a DJ who will be playing all of your favorite music from that era and we encourage you to bust out your parachute pants that we know you still have hidden in the recesses of your closet and join us! The Boathouse will be serving pizza and the DJ will start spinning from 7-10pm! Please join us if you can!
