Just Part of the Dash...
I started this company 14 years ago because I was the “host” for all our friends and family gatherings. I was the one that everyone called to put social functions together. I had organized tons of baby showers, birthday parties, weddings, and anniversary parties. Why couldn’t I make a living doing what I’ve been doing for free?
I started promoting in Tipton County, and it expanded all over West Tennessee from there. I’ve coordinated anything from day of weddings, detailed dream weddings, to destination weddings, and everything in between. Bar Mitzvas are always so much fun putting together. Sweet sixteen birthday parties, baby showers, anniversary parties, and even welcoming or going away parties. Corporate parties, holiday parties, or even family reunions. Anything you can imagine to celebrate, I’ve put together. I strive to work within your budget. Whether it’s $1,000 or $100,000, I’ll direct you as much as possible, wherever possible.
I was a volunteer on Celebrate Munford committee, and numerous others. I decided then I had a passion for trade show event coordination. I had helped coordinate many trade shows/ craft fairs, car shows, fundraisers, and other events. That’s when I found my love for small businesses.
My mom owned one, Pro Master Tax in Munford. My dad had owned one as I was growing up, Richardson Trucking. I worked at Down Home Cafe and Billings pool hall as a teenager. We had opened a mom and pops restaurant, Heritage Cafe, when I moved out on my own. That’s what made my world go around. Small businesses. And I hadn’t realized it until then.
I tried my hand in direct sales. And loved every minute of it. I was actually pretty good at them because I had the gift of gab. During college I went on to work at our local newspaper, then our local radio station both in sales. I learned a lot about our local businesses and the owners of each of them during that time. I grew to love each one of them like my own family. I decided I was going to do more in our small tight knit community. I was going to help promote these businesses and their products more, somehow. So I started hosting trade shows here in Tipton County.
I wanted to make sure I catered to my “family” (vendors) but also to the wonderful guests that made these shows possible so I’ve never charged for guest admission to any of my shows. I strive to always have a DJ there for the entertainment. A caterer for snacks for the guests and the vendors. We always have free bottled water for everyone. I’ve been asked time and again, “why don’t you start charging admission?” It’s simple. I do this to help promote our local businesses in our small towns. I want the guests to come and see what’s being offered here. If I started charging for all of this wonderfulness then the guests wouldn’t come! I do this for everyone. Its not to get rich- I’m not. It’s so that maybe I can help be a part of the solution, not the problem.
The trade shows have become Expos and annual shows now. With more than 500 guests coming through each one and growing each year, that’s a success. Thank you to everyone, vendors and guests alike for making my dreams of Scarlett Events come true and growing your businesses alongside mine!
