My name is Abigail...imagine that! haha. My love of all things baking started at a very young age, by helping my mom in the kitchen growing up. My mom is the best southern cook I know to date. She makes everything with love and tradition, just like her mom and grandma. I loved waking up to the smell of fresh buttermilk biscuits and conecuh sausage! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it! lol. Mom showed me the ropes of savory cooking and the basics of baking. I love to cook but I am OBSESSED with baking!!

With this new found obsession for baking, a fire had been ignited within me. I started my own home based baking business at the age of 13 at the height of the national cupcake craze! I named my business Abby Cakes and I was going to make the best cupcakes EVER!! As a 13 year old this was my life, wake up do school (I was home schooled BTW #nerd), bake cupcakes, make marketing materials on my moms Print Master software to send with my dad to take to work. I ended up setting up at a few festivals and catering a few weddings with cake and cupcakes to match!

By the time I graduated High School I knew I wanted to own my own bakery one day...like a real brick and mortar bakery with a shiny bakery case and everything! I knew how to bake and my 2nd favorite activity other than actually baking was reading and collecting cookbooks so I decided to go to college and get a business degree instead of going to culinary school.

College was awesome...I studied all the time and went to ZERO parties and ended up graduating with a 4.0 and I was going to RULE THE WORLD!!! I wanted to take a break from the owning a bakery idea and try and tackle corporate America, because you know...I’m a college educated woman now and I CAN DO ANYTHING!! lol.

Applications were filled out by the dozens to places like, Amazon, Google, and literally any corporate big girl job I could find to a apply to... Well about 2 months after I started applying post-grad life hit me HARDDD. I was not getting any calls back on any applications or interviews and I began to feel like a complete and utter failure.

I ended up landing an Assistant Bakery Manager position at a nationally known grocery store. It payed the bills as soon as I found out how I could move up in the company I was hooked! I AM A WORKAHOLIC btw... so this worked out great for me. I worked my butt off and ended up holding many in store positions before I actually achieved my goal of become a corporate woman!

Corporate life was awesome at first. Travel, Money, Working all the time. I was great. I did this for 3 years and one day something SHOOK me back to reality. I found myself working just for the money and enough was never enough. This is was not my passion, this was not my childhood dream, this was not me.

I ended up quitting my cush corporate job to go back to my roots and dig into small business america to learn how to achieve my childhood dream of that bakery with the shiny case in it! I started work as a local bakery in Nashville as a Pastry Chef which lead to a manager position at another small bakery and then a head Pastry Chef position at another great local bakery! I had to go back to my roots to really be happy with where my life was heading.

I decided to finally pick back up what my 13 year old self started. I have grown from Abby Cakes to Abigail’s Cakery and Southern Patisserie. I plan on taking this journey where it will lead me because I know this is where I am supposed to be! This is just the beginning and I don’t have that brick and mortar shop yet but I know I will one day!!

All my recipes are inspired by all the great southern bakers before me! I hope to make them proud.
