We're just over 2 weeks away from welcoming the Mirari Brass Quintet to the Jackson Concert Series at Wesley United Methodist Church! Their free concert is Friday, October 18, at 7pm. Engaging and eclectic, the group performs music spanning many centuries and genres, balancing intensity with levity and refined virtuosity with pure fun. We have added a concert on Thursday, November 7, at 2:30pm! Robin Spielberg, pianist and speaker on music and mental health, will present old time favorites from yesteryear (such as from Broadway & Great American Songbook) and will talk about them. This Jackson concert is presented in partnership with the Quad City Arts Visiting Artist Series.
Our next 2 concerts prior to Robin's will be Mirari Brass Quintet on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7pm and Robert Nicholls' organ improvisation while the silent movie 'Nosferatu' (1922) is shown will be Friday, Nov. 1 at 7pm. 'Nosferatu' is the first version of Count Dracula.

On Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7pm, the Jackson Concert Series welcomes Big Fun Jazz Band to Wesley United Methodist Church. This 6-piece band plays funk, soul, and jazz fusion from the ‘60s, ’70s, and beyond. All the members of this group are seasoned individuals that have extensive playing and teaching credentials. Several members are currently on the faculties of both the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa.

The US Air Force's Band of Mid-America Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble will perform on Wednesday, August 7, at 7pm! This free concert is part of the Jackson Concert Series and will be at Wesley United Methodist Church in Muscatine. Doors open at 6pm. Hear a variety of musical styles, from big band swing to patriotic selections and more, all performed by American Airmen.

Our next 2 concerts in the Jackson Concert Series will be presented in partnership with the Quad City Arts Visiting Artist Series. First up on Thursday, April 18, at 2pm will be Wanees Zarour. He is an award winning Palestinian-American multi-instrumentalist steeped in maqam and jazz music. He directs several groups, including the Chicago Immigrant Orchestra. Next Thursday, May 11, at 2:30pm, Martha Redbone will be performing as part of the Jackson Concert Series at Wesley United Methodist Church in Muscatine. This FREE concert is presented in conjunction with the Quad City Visiting Artists. Hope to see you there!

Redbone is known for her unique gumbo of folk, blues, and gospel from her childhood in Appalachia (Harlan County, Kentucky) infused with the eclectic grit of pre-gentrified Brooklyn. Inheriting the powerful vocal range of her gospel-singing African American father and the resilient spirit of her mother’s Cherokee/Shawnee/Choctaw culture, and with songs and storytelling that share her life experience as a Native and African American woman and mother in the new millennium, Redbone gives voice to issues of social justice, bridging traditions from past to present. TONIGHT Monroe Crossing Bluegrass Ensemble will be performing at 7:30pm at Wesley United Methodist Church! This is a FREE concert with no tickets required. The band performs an electrifying blend of classic bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, and original bluegrass. They have played nearly 2500 concerts and recorded at least 17 albums. See you there!
