Ok..here goes my annual pre-prom shopping informational post.
1) Come in open minded! 80 %Ish of the girls leave with something COMPLETELY different in style and color than they came in looking for.
2) Please keep in mind that formal wear size charts are different and are made in different countries. You will have to size up. Please don't let this get into your head. I know easier said than done. I struggle with it myself. But it doesn't change who you are or how you look. If you are a size 10 in street clothes, chances are you are a 12 or 14 in formal wear.
3) Be nice to mom. You are still her little girl and she loves seeing you in different styles. If she asks you to try on a dress...do it. Cherish these moments with her. Let her see you in the pink princess gown even if you hate it! Especially if she is paying :-)
4) Please be respectful of the dresses. DO NOT force yourself into dresses. Last year we spent over $2500 in broken zippers and ripped seams. Do not throw them on the floor. Please hang them back up. We will put them back for you. These dresses are expensive and the next girl deserves to try on the dress in good condition.
5)Please watch what you say. I have seen girls leave in tears because the girl next to her was saying "I am so fat! I can't believe I have get a size 8!) when this young lady was in a size 16/18. God made us all different! Embrace your body. This world would be boring if we all looked the same!
6) Shop early! We have 10 dresses we have had to pull off the orderable racks already because they are gone. We offer layaway. So shop early so you can get the best selection of sizes and colors.
7) Be prepared! Do not wear a sports bra to try on dresses. It is hard to get a vision of what the dress looks like when you have a bright purple sports bra sticking out!
8) If you have a budget, let us know and be honest! It is heartbreaking to try on and fall in love with a $380 dress when your budget is $250. We have dresses in everyone budget. $50 to $500...let us help you find a dress with-in the budget. Again, shop early and maybe you can go up a bit on your budget...you'll have time to work and save!
9) We know our dresses...it is what we do all day every day...Let us SEE you in the dresses. It is just an important for us to know what you DON'T like as well as what you do like. It helps us know what dresses to pull for you. If you don't let us see you, we can't help you. Just yesterday I had a girl who would not come out of the dressing room. Once we finally got her to let us see her, she said I love this top but hate the bottom. I went and pulled her the same dress top with a flowy bottom and she loved it. Otherwise she would of left disappointed.
10) We register all prom dresses to the school in which they are going to worn to. We don't want 2 girls in the same dress in the same color at the same prom. We will be happy to check a dress for you at anytime to make sure it is able to go to your school prom. This is something we are very diligent about! Every order is double checked.
11) Our good seamstresses get booked up about 2 to 3 weeks out. Another reason to shop early!
12) Shop local! I appreciate local girls shopping here but even it if it is another prom store, shopping local provides jobs and support for local sports teams, year book ads, program sponsorships etc. We keep our dresses below MSRP so you probably won't find it cheaper on the internet! Plus it is so much more fun to shop and have that experience with Mom or a friend. Plus you'll know how the dress looks and feels before ordering it
13) If shopping on the weekend, bring your patience! lol We often have a short wait for dressing rooms. It gets a little crazy in here on weekends but that is when it is the most fun and you'll get all the moms options!
14) Have fun! Pick out dresses for each other. Try on outside of the box type of dresses. I've had girls try on dresses to be funny and ended leaving with them! Sometimes those statement dresses are stunning on. Sometimes the ugliest dresses in the hanger are most beautiful on. Try on a lot of different stuff.
15) Keep in mind our credit card machine charges the user 4%. If you can plan ahead to pay cash, check, cash app, paypal or venmo it will save you money.
16) As with all formal wear and bridal shops, please be aware that all sales and special orders are final. If you are not 100% sure...wait.
17) ASK QUESTIONS! We prefer to order everyone a brand new dress if it is in stock. If you see a dress you like, ask us what colors and sizes it come in. If it is damaged, chances are it is a SIZER and used only for trying on purposes. Some of our dresses come in one color and some come in up to 17 colors. Some companies start at 00, some at a 2...some go up to a size 16, another may go to 24. We can help you find the right company that offers your size.
18) Be prepared to have to get alterations. Most dresses are designed to fit someone 5'7" or 5'8" with heels. Almost all dresses will have to have some sort of work done to make them fit you perfectly
19) Think outside the box. Love a dress but it strapless and you don't like strapless? You can have straps added for very cheap. Especially if you have to have some take off the bottom... you material to make straps! Neck like to plunging? It can either be sinched with a few stitches or added material from the bottom to cover up cleavage. Top a little to big? Ask us about Boomba's! They are a super comfortable and work wonders! There are tons of little tricks we can help you with!
I think that is all for now! WHEW!!!!
Lets go!! PROM 2025!
