This is a tough one, isn’t it? We can’t achieve perfection anyway, but wow do we like to try…and then being authentic means being vulnerable and honest about the things that AREN’T perfect in our lives. Here’s what is true in my life, though…in the moments when I have been the most vulnerable and authentic, I have found the most connection with others and myself. This carries into business, design, family, and friendships. There is freedom that comes with the letting go of perfection.

Does anyone else stress over the spring flowers that have popped up before April? I mean, it SNOWED in Nashville yesterday and all I could think about was the flowering branches on the trees!

This table is proof that the flowers are just part of the over-all design. The chairs, the velvet linen, the taper candles, the varied votives, and table setting all play into the over-all look and feel of this table. It is so warm, stylish, and inviting!!

This might be one of my favorite collections in our studio-our modern terra cotta bowls and tiny votive "pots", bronze satellite vases that can also be used as a votive holder, and our clear votive holders that are just slightly more delicate than the norm. This palette can work all year around, but I especially love it in the fall with autumnal greens and blooms!

A Kenzan, or flower frog, is a device used in the Japanese art of floral design called Ikebana. This type of design honors balance and harmony. We like to incorporate this type of design into our table scapes so that individual blooms or interesting pieces of greenery can be appreciated all on their own.

Being a florist is more this than hands-on design work, believe it or not. A lot of hours go into creating recipes for each design, working out numbers for orders, and staying within budgets set by clients. This is the work that makes the magic happen on an event day. Here's a little secret though...it's not really magic. The hope is that it FEELS magical, but the reality is that it takes tons of organization, thought, teamwork, and the ability to pivot quickly to make it all happen beautifully.

Even in the darkest hours of January, when the clouds and chill threaten to do us in, there is hope in action. The barren tree roots burrow deeper into the soil for life and the sparrow fluffs it's feathers like a big puffy coat for warmth. We can hope by remembering beauty and goodness, by seeing God in the smallest details around us, and by looking forward to the first signs of Spring...the yellow daffodils and bright forsythia springing from the ground.

January is a time for me that feels vulnerable, thoughtful, and quiet. I turned 45 this year. It seems like a pretty solid number, a mid-way point that feels grounded yet fresh somehow. Aging is weird, though. I've never been scared of it, and yet, I'm pretty sure I need progressive glasses!! The older I get, the more comfortable I have begun to feel in my own skin. I'm really thankful for that. The past few months have been some of the most challenging in my life as we've begun the process of starting another business. There have been sleepless nights, hard conversations, and wildly fun moments imagining what might be possible. This new venture is our dream. I have never experienced such vulnerability and confidence all at the same time and I'm so dang excited about it! Cheers to growing and learning all the time!
