Born and raised in South Carolina, DJ 2Tru has been mesmerized by DJs ever since hearing/seeing his first Summer Fest featuring the likes of Spinderella, Jam Master Jay and Kid Capri in the 1980s. Dreams became reality when his friend Chris introduced him to his father a local radio station DJ who produced a Gospel Show. Tru joined the Air Force immediately after high school and transplanted to Ja
pan in 1991. He would serve six years in Aomori and work with local Northern Japan celebrity DJ Atsushi. Tru became a instant Aomori favorite, he not only learned the craft of DJ club play but learned to speak Japanese as well. Working with DJ Atsushi taught him the business of learning how to use music to speak to people. He was considered a bridge between American and Japanese cultures, with the use of music. From Hip Hop, R&B, Old School and Reggae, Tru found his calling as the DJ who brought a little bit of Urban America to the small town of Misawa, Japan. In 1997, Tru made the move to Baltimore, MD and then began a quest to make a name for himself. After a few weeks in the DMV, Tru met up with local radio DJ and promoter, who gave him a chance to prove himself to a very hostile DC crowd. Tru then became a member of the DJ troupe “Next Generation DJs” with likes of DJ Xclusive (Ruff Ryders, XM Sat Radio),DJ Quicksilver (93.9 WKYS) and DJ SixthSense (Russ Parr Show). Tru has opened for DJ SNS, Kid Capri, Rakim, Ludacris, and Akinelye to name a few. In 2007, DJ 2Tru moved back to Japan where he’s been a true DJ to be reckoned with. Traveling monthly from Aomori to Tokyo, Tru is slowly becoming a foreign favorite in the Land of the Rising Sun. Not only does he DJ, he hosts parties with authority. Playing 100+ gigs per year, Tru is a workaholic. But that doesn’t keep him out the studio during the week working on remixes and video mixes. Constantly trying to push the envelope, Tru is committed to make his fans sweat on the dancefloor. “There is nothing better than finishing a tune and seeing the reaction from a crowded dancefloor right after finishing it," he beams. New CD and DVD Projects are on the Horizon.
