The Maine Festival of American Music: Its Roots and Traditions Shaker history, Shaker music, American music, general chamber music Workshop will be Friday, June 29, 2012, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Festival celebrates a wide variety of musics through the Portland String Quartet including collaborations with Brother Arnold Hadd and guest artists. A Workshop Day for adult and student string players offers coaching sessions and a Master Class - held at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village. wles Paine Quartet in D Major (1855). Thursday, June 28 features Brother Arnold Hadd, Shaker Quick Dance and Shaker fiddle tunes. Master fiddler Gregory Boardman will demonstrate the connections between these tunes and traditional fiddle music, and he and the PSQ will premier Boardman's Quintet for Fiddle and String Quartet. The program for Saturday, June 30th is "Out of the Box!- Women Composers Break Barriers with Original Masterpieces. Pianist Virginia Eskin joins the PSQ for a delightful evening with Amy Beach, Marion Bauer, Rebecca Clarke, Ruth Crawford and Kay Gardner. at the 1794 Meeting House, Sabbathday Lake, New Gloucester, ME. 207-926-4597.
