No better way to say goodbye to 5784 and bring in 5785 than with the sweetest baby girl’s first birthday party and baby naming at Locanda Verde in Tribeca. She was welcomed into her community, led by her fantastic parents, whose wedding I’d gotten to officiate almost exactly 2 years ago at the NY Botanical Gardens. Community, continuity and lots of love filled that room, just like everything we do

Beautiful UWS day. Thinking about Kol Nidre tonight and R Alan Lew’s z”l words: “…the Kol Nidre prayer calls the soul back to itself, a prayer that calls the soul to its real home, and that home is always in something larger than itself.” Excited to be with a community that feels like home. Wishing everyone a meaningful Yom Kippur and a return to the core of your heart and soul. .

Happy 2023! There is almost nothing in NYC I’d wait on a 45 min line for. Sharing it with the next generation of eaters was beyond worth it. Great start to our year and wishing everyone a peaceful, productive healthy start to 2023.

Walking through Tribeca yesterday, I found myself stopping and staring at this simple sign in someone’s ground floor window. Then later in the day, two children- one eight years old and the other thirteen- both talked with me in their own way about how important it is to talk with empathy and love- because that is the only way towards peace and understanding. So simple and on so many levels, so true.

My friend Natalie Green Giles wrote “Songa’s Story” 20 years ago, to preserve the history lesions captured in the telling of her Ukrainian-born uncle’s remarkable story of survival during WWII and beyond. Natalie noted that “those lesions have profound relevance today…”. She wrote for future understanding. The world sees; the future is now.
