Ringing in Mia's 4th birthday with an epic birthday party and a one of a kind, 14 inch chocolate chip cookie layer cake (with a thick smear of homemade chocolate icing gluing the dual 14 inch cakes together). Cake decorating compliments of Dylan and Mia!

I am so proud to call myself the mother of this amazing, feisty duo. These kiddos have faced some tough, unexpected challenges this year. But they've rolled with all the punches. They are so smart and strong, brave and bold, and full of joy. They are the kind of kids who run around in their underwear, screaming and laughing, through the freezing water, under the moonlight on the shore of a deserted April beach. The kind of kids who find a way to make every day an adventure.

It's not easy being a mother. I've probably asked them to put their shoes on at least ten thousand times this year. I sit down for maybe an hour a day. Sometimes I get to finish dinner! They keep me on my toes and they drive me nuts, and I love every minute of it.

I'm the Boss Mama around here. But we are a team. I take care of them, they take care of me, they take care of each other. Dylan and Mia, it is such an honor to be your mama, and to be a part of your team.

Really made Dylan and Mia work for their dinner last night, rolling out the dough for fresh pasta and whipping up meatballs (but they refused to touch the ground beef, wimps). I've been having them cook dinner with me every step of the way, and they're really into it - give it a shot, your kids will surprise you!
