It starts with a light and ends with a vision executed. Some businesses are created out of need. Others are created out of passion. Levy Lighting was created out of both. In the lighting and design industry, Ira Levy is a visionary. What started as a love for events has evolved into a talent to innovate live experiences. And to think it all happened, because of one rock concert. A concert that substantially changed the fate of not just one man, but of multiple industries. Ira Levy, became bit by the production bug before he knew that a career in events was even possible. From that one fateful night at a Pretenders concert, Ira began to create opportunities for himself and his community on campus. From producing events to starting nightclubs, his exposure to live entertainment built a Rolodex for him in the industry, all before gaining a college degree. In the experimental stages of his career, Ira worked with mega-talents U2 and Eddie Murphy, just to name a few. The birth of Levy Lighting was nothing short of serendipitous. The growth of the music video industry, in the 80s, and his reputation for throwing parties in the Hamptons, exposed him to the power of lighting as an accessory, and not just an afterthought. He sought mentorship with a lighting vendor, and as it turned out they equally needed each other. The vendor brought the skills, and Ira brought the innovation. His ability to see, and sell, lighting as a design element, not just an illumination device, opened up doors for him to work with the most creative minds in production, including Cirque Du Soleil. However, the game changer appeared in the form of a simple interior design project for the one and only Donna Karan. This simple referral opened doors for Levy Lighting in the Fashion, Bridal and Retail industries. Displaying once again the power of chance encounters. Whoever said being first isn’t important has never been first in business. Being first has been Levy Lighting’s unintentional strategy for years. They were one of the first in the region and industry, to use LED Lighting and now Holograming. Now entering its 3rd decade, Levy Lighting has a new name and a new mission. Get to know Levy NYC.
