MARC DEATON occupies a prominent place among today's most distinctive dramatic tenors. Marc Deaton has established his reputation not only through his superb musicality and electrifying stage presence, but also through his extraordinarily multi-faceted repertoire. He has appeared with leading opera companies and orchestras throughout the world, including: Vienna, Salzburg, Zurich, Berlin, Dresden,

Paris, Barcelona, Augsburg, Munich, Mannheim, Bucarest, Budapest, Prague, Bratislava, Sofia, New York, Bangkok, Hong Kong, San Francisco, New Orleans and Santa Fe among others; portraying the great Wagner and Strauss roles: Tristan, Siegfried, Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Parsifal, Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer, Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Der Kaiser in Die Frau ohne Schatten. He is also well-known for his portrayals of Samson in Samson et Dalila, Otello, Radamès in Aïda, Calaf in Turandot, Manrico in Il Trovatore, Don José in Carmen and Canio in I Pagliacci. In the field of modern and contemporary music, he has also won great praise as Aron in Schoenberg's Moses und Aron, the Tambourmajor in Berg's Wozzeck, Student Arkenholz in Reimann's Die Gespenstersonate, Prologue and Peter Quint in Britten's The Turn of the Screw, the title role in Peter Grimes and Male Chorus in The R**e of Lucretia, among others. His concert repertoire is just as broad, ranging from classical to modern and comprising virtually all the great tenor parts in such works as the Ninth Symphony of Beethoven, Schoenberg's Gurrelieder, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius, Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire (he was the first man to perform the role at Vienna's Schoenberg Center). He is widely known for his performances of orchestral songs by Wagner, Strauss, Mahler, Britten and Berg. Deaton is also an active recitalist with piano and instruments, performing songs by Wagner, Strauss, Mahler, Britten, Vaughan Williams and Berg, among others. His recordings include the title role in Tristan und Isolde with the Bulgarian Festival Orchestra on Titanic Records; the October 2011 Centaur Records release of Marc Deaton WAGNER, a solo disc of Wagner excerpts recorded with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, Calaf in Turandot with Bangkok Opera on DVD, and Stephen Suber's Upon the Bank at Early Dawn on Centaur Records. Deaton was also the subject of a much-acclaimed documentary Being Tristan: A Tenor's Journey, which was broadcast on PBS/WNET Thirteen. This hour-long documentary portrays the many facets of Mr. Deaton's career during the period leading up to and during his performances of Tristan in Bulgaria.
