Snow is on the ground, and most people are enjoying the sort of hibernation of January (I am too to some extent), but I’m also starting seeds and planning for my bulb orders. I order all of my tulip and other fall bulbs by in March for flowers the NEXT year! Something that I’ve been toying with is offering some of the specialty bulbs I order for sale to you all. So as I’m considering what to order and how much, would any of you be interested in buying bulbs and corms for things like tulips, fancy daffodils, ranunculus and anemones?

I still have some of the true red amaryllis (these are the burgundy ones used at the workshop) bulbs left if you’d like to have something like this in your home in 6-8 weeks. Each bulb has 2-4 stalks and each stalk has multiple blooms. One shown has 5 buds on just one stalk!!! Bulbs are $16 each but since I’m trying to close out for the year buy 2 get a third free!

This past Saturday, on winter solstice—literally the darkest day of the year, we laid to rest one of my favorite people, my grandma. She was one of the most Jesus-like humans I’ve ever known. My cousin spoke for all of us grandkids when she said, “I want to be grandma when I grow up!”

As we knew the end was coming, I asked my mom and aunts if I could do the casket flowers. I’ve made arrangements for my grandma numerous times and I knew this would be my last opportunity to ever do it again. They only had one request, red roses because they were her favorite.

I had never ordered flowers before and I need to thank Marvin’s Wholesale out of Indy for how easy and quick they made the process. We were able to harvest the greenery on family farms and I added in some dried bits from my patch as well. It was also important to me that the arrangement was foam free, so the only non-compostable portion is the plastic base that could be removed and reused.

I’m still hugely passionate about the local flower movement and don’t intend to make ordering flowers a big part of my business, but sympathy flowers out of season feel like an admirable exception.

I’m thankful to my family for trusting me and my vision for such an important piece. I’d like to believe my grandma was looking down from “where the roses never fade” and loved it. 🌹

I’m glad my friend Deborah shared this on her page. If you’re wondering why the bulbs she’s selling or that I’m selling cost more than what you see in the store, it’s because they’re bigger! And bigger bulbs mean more blooms! If you’re in the Greenwood area, try these waxed amaryllis out. And if you’re around here, I still have bulbs you can plant as well as some already started that you can get before Christmas.

This week has been a little more hectic than I had planned, so I’m behind on posting.

I still have some ornaments and amaryllis available and I’m wanting to close down shop for the year here soon, so be on the lookout for some deals and posts about what’s available this coming week!

Hey, all! I hate to announce that I WON’T be at Hometown Christmas tomorrow. With the cold weather and having to be outside, I’m afraid that my amaryllis bulbs might be shocked going from indoors to that cold especially without sides on my tent.

HOWEVER, I’m going to be attending the High School Business Class’s Holiday Bazaar on Friday! This is extra special for me since I taught business at Bloomfield before staying home with the kids and starting this flower business. I will still have my dried flower ornaments and all my amaryllis bulbs with me. I hope you’ll stop by and see me at this event. If you planned to see me at Hometown Christmas and can’t make it to the Bazaar on Friday, let me know how I can help and what you were hoping to get and I’m sure we can work something out.

Another fun night making wreaths at Feed Store Beer Co. I want to take a minute to thank Steve and Stacey for hosting us. They are such good friends and I love having such a fun, family friendly place here in our small town!

Once again, a few of the ladies had to leave while I was helping others so I don’t have a pic of their finished wreaths, but this was such a fun group of ladies!
