As we roll into actively booking 2025 clients for next wedding season we are realizing more just how important education in this industry is. When you’re planning your wedding day you want to make sure you feel confident in your vendor team, that you can trust them, and feel understood. So we came up with our “7 things to consider when hiring a wedding planner”!
1. Is this person knowledgeable in the location/destination I am having my event at? This is so, so important. Especially when planning an island based, destination wedding. There are so many “ins and outs” to navigate this and ensure your planning process is smooth and that you have a seamless event day.
2. Does this person have industry connections? What is their professional network like? Do they work well with others? Have they worked with vendors in the area before? Going on 10 years in this industry in the Newport area, it is so important for your planner to be connected and have a network of people they can call on.
3. Can this person achieve the style of event I am hoping for? What types of design do they often work with? Do I feel like their style of work aligns with what I am envisioning?
4. This one is easy. Do you like this person’s personality? Did you click on your initial consult call? You’re going to be working so closely with this individual to plan what is supposed to be one of the most special days of your life. You want to make sure you like your planners (and all your vendors) personality
5. What is their communication like? It is so important that you and your planner have set expectations. Especially for communication. Make sure you talk about this. The last thing you want is to have this expectation that the process will go one way, and that’s not in fact how your planner operates/communicates at all.
6. Is this their full time gig? Are they doing this on the side? This will speak volumes to the level of communication you will receive as the client and really gives you a better idea of who you’re hiring. Most of all — just please make sure your planner is a licensed and insured vendor.
7. Do we share the same values? Is what is important to you, important to this person?
