CALL FOR NEW MEMBERS – LIGHTING, SOUND & BACKSTAGE!

Everyone at Encore Theatre Company would like to give a huge thank you to those who came to watch our production of Treasure Island last year.

We’re gearing up to our next production, with rehearsals beginning in March, and we’re on the lookout for people who want to take part in the incredibly important backstage side of stage shows.
Interested in lighting tech? (We’re particularly in need of someone with experience in stage lights or someone who wants the opportunity to test out their skills) Creating props or putting together costumes? Helping with our front of house team?

We've just had a count of how much was put into Sunbeams' buckets by our wonderful audience during the shows. £217.69 was raised! Thank you so much :D

Today is the last day of Encore's yearly pantomime, and there wouldn't be a show without our wonderful director!

"Ahoy me hearties and welcome aboard the HMS Hemsby as the Encore Theatre Company sail her towards this year’s panto production of Treasure Island. Be prepared to meet scary pirates and even scarier members of the Hemsby Cove Women’s Institute! Look out for buried treasure but beware of Captain Bloodheart in the haunted grotto.

This year’s panto promises to be action packed from the word go.

I am so proud to belong to this group they have worked tirelessly on this production and many of our cast members are trying new roles and challenges. Our wonderful junior chorus have been so committed and hard working with the brilliant support from their parents.

As a director, it is a pleasure when you are working with such a dedicated cast but it is such an added bonus when your production team of: set builders, prop makers, costume designers, makeup artists are so brilliant at what they do.

It is impossible to thank everyone who has helped to put Treasure Island on the Hemsby map but I would like to say a huge thank you to the wonderful lady who has kept me in Hobnobs and coffee throughout the rehearsals.

So, all that’s left to say is sit back, watch out for flying cannon balls and let the magic begin."

This is the last day of our pantomime Treasure Island, and Sweet Seaweed Wilma has something for the audience -- the black spot!

"This is my third year with Encore Theatre Company and I have enjoyed every minute sharing the stage with such a fantastic group of performers and crew.
My favourite scene is in the tavern at the beginning because I get to act alongside my daughter Kitty, who plays Jim Hawkins. I'm enjoying playing the part of Seaweed Wilma as l like being part of a double act and I'm having a great time having a laugh with my pal Seadog Sam!"

Introducing the lovely ladies from the Women's Institute. See how they manage to terrify Long John Silver in our pantomime of Treasure Island this weekend!

"My last few shows have been Hair spray, Frozen and Grease. I'm enjoying being able to socialize with everyone and our tea breaks because I can eat all the biscuits!"

"I originally was a member of the Hemsby Harlequins for a few years before having a break. I loved the idea of returning to amateur dramatics and when I found out about Encore it seemed a wonderful opportunity. I am so pleased I did. What a fantastic group and a pleasure to be with. This year’s show is Treasure Island. I am really enjoying the opportunity to play a character this year and love the vibrancy of the show. It has a wonderful cast and back stage crew and a fantastic director who has so much passion feeding through to us. I have no doubt that this will be one of the best shows ever."

"I've been in Addam's Family, Sister Act and Aladdin. I'm really enjoying the jokes in the show."

"I love the theatre and although I have been acting in plays for over 46 years, I have only performed in Pantomimes since moving to Norfolk 11 years ago. I love the freedom to be outrageous and slightly bonkers that Pantomime gives us and working with the very supportive members of Encore is always a fabulous experience. Playing Mrs Henderson (Chair of the Smugglers Cove WI) has been great fun, especially as in the past I have usually played the fairy or on one occasion, the Witch, so it has been refreshing to play a ‘normal’ person for once (although to be honest, I don’t think that there is anything ‘normal’ about Davina)."

Jim might not be the only principal boy on stage, as Jenny Trelawny wants to be the roughest, toughest seadog in town! Come see us today and tomorrow at Hemsby village hall :)

"This is my Second show with Encore. It’s been so exciting to take part in this pantomime this year with my Nana. Before Encore, I was with Dragons Stage Theatre school. Last year’s show was so fun to be a part of and I can’t wait to do it all over again this year!"

Tickets are still available for a swashbuckling adventure to Treasure Island! Introducing Mrs Hawkins. Alongside scaring off ghosts and getting kidnapped by pirates, she's still got time to bake the Squire's favourite spotted dick :D

"My favourite part of the show is the ‘spotted dick’ reference, especially as they had this as a technical challenge on bake off. I enjoy the audience participation and how everyone gets involved. I also like the jiggling about bit, but you need to come and watch to find out what that’s about!"

Introducing Jim Hawkins and the person who posts on Encore's page. Hi! 😃

Jim might think he's ready for adventure after living and working in his mother's rowdy pub, but a treasure hunting trip to Lowestoft soon makes him realise he'd rather be at home with a cup of hot chocolate!

"Last year, I had so much fun playing Wishee Washee in Aladdin. It's great working with everyone as we're all an energetic bunch, especially in the songs and dances, alongside the adlibbing scenes with my stage-mother Mrs Hawkins as it's different every night. I'll be the one wiggling along to any ABBA hits!"

FRIDGE, FRIDGE, FRIDGE! He might be one of Long John's fearsome pirates, but the Fridge just wants to be a cuddly pirate. Tickets are still available :)

“I’ve been doing shows for twenty years off and on. I have played lots of different parts including dames.

I started at Martham with Theatre East from there I went to Gorleston Theatre Company and then to Triple T productions in Great Yarmouth and now in Encore. I have sung in various choirs and sung in the Festival Hall in London with the thousand voice choir.

For a few years I did the sound for Encore and am now back on stage. I’m enjoying this production as my fellow pirates are good fun to be with as we all panic before going on stage in case we forget our lines.”
