In a world of weeds....be a sunflower!

I love my overgrown section of weeds at the end of our property. We don't mow and let it do as it wishes. It has taught me a lot about gardening, and even life for that matter. It's all perception. If you believe things should be manicured and tidy you will look at it and think it looks terrible. I always used to. I used to hate it and I don't think the neighbor likes it. I only started doing it because it stays wet back there longer than everything else. We have to wait so long to be able to get the mower back there that it's all grown up by the time we do usually, so we just started letting it go. Then one day I stopped and looked around. Now I don't dare touch it. There are so many critters, birds, pollinators and such thriving back there. It provides a home and shelter to so many living things and I enjoy it just as much as my gardens. My animals love it and it gives them something to explore. Before gardening I didn't pay attention to these little things in life. What I once thought was an eyesore shows me beauty I didn't know existed!

Pictures usually don't do a garden justice but in my current situation they actually allow you to see some of the pretty without being distracted by all the ugly on the way to get to them! I am grateful to have what I still do, even if it is mixed in a jungle of weeds.
My dahlias were not tagged and I have no idea yet what all has survived the brutal spring so each day is a surprise. There is still a lot out there for the pollinators and many flowers yet to come.
Although things did not go my way this year, I still have a lot to look forward to this season.

This year really hasn't been my year for flowers and after last night's storm, much of what I did have still growing has been damaged or destroyed. I am officially calling it quits. I will not have much, if anything, for Yankee Peddler and will have to cancel that too sadly.
So with the move coming up I suppose I will switch my focus to moving on now.
Who knows what the future holds for me
Maybe I keep doing this or maybe I do something else. I really enjoy being involved with the weddings and thinking I may even like to venture into managing/working in a wedding venue. I am also very interested in the native plant world and I am sure there is something there for me to do. I will continue to grow flowers to some degree and I will continue to do flowers for small weddings and events but the garden has been my full time job pretty much so I'm looking for more. Just gotta figure out what it is 😊 (something that doesn't require cooperation from mother nature).

Beautiful new event venue in North Lawrence. They had an event last night for vendors to tour the property and it was so fun. The venue is gorgeous and the flowers, catering, drinks and everything was just amazing. Extremely well put together. All of the vendors did a super job but the flowers from Everbloom Luxary Florals grabbed my attention before everything else. Excellent job and some of the best designs I've seen. ❤️ This is a dream wedding venue for sure and all of these vendors are top notch!

You never know what fate will bring and what tomorrow holds and just when you think you do have it figured out, fate happens.
We recently decided to start looking for our forever home that we can grow old in. We had always planned to downsize when it was just the two of us and that time has come. We expected it to take some time as we were very specific to what we wanted included in this forever home and we were not in a rush to find something. So before we started our search, there was a particular home that was not for sale but we were very interested in because it was special to us. We figured we had nothing to lose so we reached out to the owner, and as fate would have it, they wanted to sell.
They have accepted our offer and now things are happening way sooner than expected but we are more excited than words can even express. I'm still in a bit of shock actually! We will have the keys in one month!
I don't know what that means for me and all of the plans I have for The Bee Barn just yet but it is definitely time for a reset!
This year has been such a struggle and nothing has gone as planned but I have not given up yet! We will see what the rest of the season has in store for me. And after that then I suppose we will just see! Looking forward to this new beginning.

This is how my garden has looked all spring. 😩 Hopefully this is the end and these little guys can start to grow. These were beautiful healthy plugs when planted around Mother's day and they haven't grown a bit. Some are even smaller than they were.and some are trying to bloom without even growing!🤭
This feverfew is the only thing I have blooming currently but I am hopeful that the flowers are coming! I have several rows of celosia that reseeded itself and is coming back nicely so there's that! 🪻
Also quite a bit more dahlias came up than I thought would so another bonus! Not all is lost.....yet.🙏

I am having the worst season. Not much is going right for me and I really don't know if I will have any flowers this year. I still have so much to get planted and each time we attempt to till the rows again once it is finally dry enough, IT RAINS again!! My window for getting stuff in the ground is rapidly closing with not a lot of hope in sight with the current forecast.
But regardless of the misfortune around me I am still humbled by what mother nature puts in my path as I work out here.

I've lost nearly 300 dahlias because of the non stop rain right after planting and something ate 45 out of 50 Craspedia plants! I have not been able to get the biggest part of my garden planted and It has been so defeating, but maybe I have just been looking at it all wrong after seeing this today! 😊 Stay positive!!

I have several hundred cut flower plugs available that I won't have time to get in the garden. 50 cents each. If you are interested they will need to be picked up quickly and planted right away. They are getting very cramped and want out of their little spaces! I have 100 of each,
King strawflower mix, tower silver blue aster, tower chamois aster, chedi orange marigold, gold marigold, queen lime orange zinnia, queen lime peach zinnias.and pink statice. These are all tall flowers good for cutting to make arrangements or to just be beautiful in your garden.
