Let's talk toasts!

We LOVE to hear our loved ones share their thoughts and memories while wishing the newly wedding couple well!

This privilege is usually reserved for the Maid/Matron of Honor, the Best Man, one or both sets of the parents, and sometimes the couple uses this opportunity to thank everyone in attendance.

However, there are a lot of moving parts to a wedding and much as we like to share our feelings about the couple it should truly be reserved for the people mentioned above and each toast should last no more than three to five minutes each.

You may ask the reasoning behind this, and this is the high-level overview.

* These are the people closest to you and they will represent you and your partner in a kind and loving manner that you deserve.
* Passing the microphone makes you very vulnerable to what is being said as many folks may have been partaking in "adult beverages" and become very "passionate" about what they are saying whether it be appropriate or not.
* There are many moving parts to your wedding remaining and will be greatly impacted - often leading to shorter time on the dance floor or for other activities and guests' experience impacted.

Now, there are exceptions to every rule! If the toasts are very important to you and sentimental at heart and you want to hear all the things, that is totally your call!

Your "I-Do" team wants you to enjoy YOUR day in EVERY possible way!!!

A private dance that is!

You and your intended will be so busy throughout the day between friends and family, pictures, and the non-stop schedule that will keep you busy throughout the day, have you thought of when you will get a moment together?

One of the ways you can take a moment to reflect and let it sink that your special day is really happening is a private dance!

You can do this during your reception room reveal or, if you are doing an activity for your "grand" exit, you can have your private dance while guests are being lined up.

It is such an intimate and memorable moment, that you won't want to miss!

Let's talk about your wedding party!

Whether your party is 3 to 20 people strong, it should ONLY contain friends and family that are there for YOU on one of the biggest days of your lives!

When selecting your party, ask yourself these questions.

* Will they be there to encourage and be supportive to you and your partner?
* Do you anticipate being friends with them for years to come or did they play an important role in your childhood that will always hold a special place in your heart?
* Were they the first persons that came to mind?
*Why are you inviting the person(s) to stand beside you on your special day?
* Are you inviting them because your intended or family are "strongly encouraging you to? Or, because you need even numbers on each side? Or, any other numerous reasons.

There's many more to ask, but this will get you started.

Your wedding party should be cheering your name, willing to lend a helping hand, prevent drama from reaching you and share in the total joy of saying "I-Do"!

Intimate wedding parties have just as much fun as the larger ones, if not more! Why? Because you are with your TRUEST friends!

Plus, it's easier to gather everyone together for activities and it can be more cost effective, as well! Why? Because as the number grows the more personalities you have to contend with grows and more time is needed for wedding pictures and other activities throughout the day, which may lead into additional costs for wedding vendors to direct your large party.

The bottom-line is, your day should be filled with nothing but love, joy, and happiness! Surround yourself with the people who will do just that!

To DIY or NOT DIY?

That is a great question!

Here are some thoughts on things I've heard and observed from my DIY brides...

Picture this. It's the night of the rehearsal, you've picked the family up from the airport, have your centerpieces and all things wedding in your trailer, your nails are done, you've checked in or are about to check in to the hotel, and your phone is ringing with well-wishers and lost family and friends, you still have to get ready for the wedding rehearsal, go to the rehearsal, have rehearsal dinner, you still have some items left to do in preparation of your big day, but now your friends and family want to celebrate with your last non-married night until the wee hours of the morning, and you have to get up at the crack of dawn to get your hair and makeup done with your wedding party and the list goes on and on....oh wait - we still need to setup!

I don't know about you, but I'm tired just thinking about it!

DIY is AMAZING, but I highly recommend you prioritize the DIY projects you do. If it is small and sentimental, adds value, creates memories, and still allows you to enjoy your special day, go for it!

However, let's take a look at rentals too! Rentals allows you to hire professionals with years of expertise and passion to bring your vision to life; you are helping the environment by repurposing items; no worries if you have enough supplies - the professionals have it handled! Oh and at the end of the night, when you are tired from being up all day and dancing into the night - don't worry about the tear-down - we got you covered! Plus you don't have to worry about finding and selling your wedding items to the next advantageous couple!

This is YOUR wedding day and you should do what is right for YOU!

Just remember you want to ENJOY your day to the fullest and create positive memories galore!

Do You Have Your Marriage License Yet?

If you are within a year of your wedding date you can go to any county to get your license within the State you are getting married.

You may get your license directly from the courthouse which they will notarize it there, or you may do it online and will need to locate a notary to sign your marriage license.

Here are a couple of tips!

- Bring your ID with you (Driver's License, Passport, or Birth Certificate)
- Nebraska will accept Cash or Credit Card for the $25 fee to obtain your license
- Know or bring your SSN

There are a slew of other tips on Nebraska's website at https://www.douglascountyclerk.org/marriage-licenses that may assist in answering your questions!

After you obtain your marriage license, make sure you bring it with you to give to the pastor/officiant, planner, or designated person liable for getting it signed and sent off to make your wedding day "official, official"!

Congrats - you are now ready to say "I-Do"!

Now you can go have brunch, lunch, or do something together and take a break from all the wedding planning and enjoy one another!

So, if you know me, I prefer to stay behind the scenes as I make my client's vision a reality.

However, I have been checking off some of my short and long-term goals and am happy to say that I have taken my 20+ years in the wedding and events industry and joined a group of AMAZING industry professionals by becoming a Certified Wedding Planner with the CWP Society - Membership for Wedding Professionals !

There are many common oversights when it comes to wedding planning that catches couples off guard or they overlook because they simply did not know.⁣


The result of this leads to couples stressing during the wedding planning process.⁣

Here are few tips to consider before starting the process:⁣

1⭐ - Make sure you are in alignment with your partner.⁣

There is a misconception that brides are the only ones planning weddings.⁣

Over 40% of married men said, they helped in reserving a venue, hiring the photographer, hiring the caterers, and booking the entertainment.⁣

2 ⭐- Create a plan before you start hiring anyone including a Wedding Planner.⁣

Your wedding plan should include:⁣

Budget - how much you have now not later⁣
Guest Count⁣
Wedding Location⁣
Decor ideas⁣
Things you don't want⁣
Venue type⁣
Level of family involvement⁣

3⭐ - The Budget⁣

Set a budget but understand your prices will be off.⁣

54% of couples spent more than they'd planned according to The Knot ⁣

Include a 20% buffer as you have to consider inflation and the market your wedding will take place in.⁣


4⭐ - Not prioritizing the types of wedding vendors⁣

Does your wedding need every wedding vendor? NO⁣

Hire people based on what you don't want to do or can't do on your own.⁣

Split vendors into a must have and a nice to have list. Focus on the must haves first.⁣

5 ⭐- Not scheduling time with each other during the wedding.⁣

Sounds crazy but many couples never spend quality time together at their wedding with just themselves.⁣

Have your Wedding Planner schedule alone time during your wedding so you both can have those memories.⁣

6 ⭐- Hiring the wrong wedding vendors.⁣

Example is a Photographer who shoots outdoors in natural light but your wedding is indoors in a ballroom.⁣

Ask the hard questions before signing a contract.⁣

Let's talk about photography!
Photographers are one of the top vendors that impact your day!

I love all the photos and the memories they represent, and even more fun is seeing those moments being captured through the professional behind the lens. Each has their own style!

When looking for a photographer, you will want to consider some of the items below to help identify which photographer matches your vibe the most!

- What style are you looking for? Some photographers specialize in candid shots, dark and moody, light and airy, commercial, cinematic, and so much more!
- Do you prefer a natural light photographer or one that uses lighting?
- When speaking with your potential photographer do you vibe with them? They are going to be capturing moments throughout the day and you want to be smiling and energetic and not looking like the "Addams Family".
- How much experience do they have taking photos? Ask to see their work. Review their work both online and on social - to ensure the style matches on all sites.
- Ask how you will be receiving the gallery of your photos. Via an online gallery, a thumb drive, or some other methodology?
- Determine how long it will take to get your photos back? Make sure this is in the contract!
- Will there be one or two photographers on site! I always recommend a second one, because the various angles they can capture the moments are outstanding!
- For my wedding couples, are they a wedding photographer? Do they know timelines, the importance of timelines and adhering to them, can communicate with other vendors, know which pictures are pertinent to capture for the day, and know the ins and outs of working a church wedding versus a venue wedding?

All these details will matter in the selection process! Thank goodness for technology as they allow you a "peek" into the work they do before reaching out to them.

Be honest and realistic about your budget! Generally speaking, those with more experience know their worth and will charge accordingly.

However, do not despair, there is a photographer out there for everyone who will meet both your vibe and your budget! All you have to do willing to do a little research and sometimes realistically compromise on what meets your overall needs.

To assist in the process, reach out to your venue or ask one of your other vendors for their approved vendor list. They may have recommendations on "tried and true" photographers. Or you can reach out to a planner, like Divine Events, who has a listing of many amazing photographers in the area!

BOTH are amazing at their craft, but for one of the most important days of your life, you will want a DJ who not only knows how to play music to the needs of your guests but also does the following:

- Help enforce the wedding day timeline
- Knows and understands wedding day activities & traditions
- Is an emcee
- Directs your wedding party and guests at pivotal moments. Helps the wedding flow.
- Releases guests for dinner
- Knows the best wedding songs for milestones in your wedding day
- Engages your guests on the dance floor! You might even find them out there showing them a new dance!
- Sets the tone and mood of your day
- Plays music not just for the reception, but the ceremony and cocktail reception too
