Averett Equestrian Studies

Averett Equestrian Studies Students in the equestrian studies program have the opportunity to attend clinics, workshops and seminars in addition to classes.

Participation in shows, intercollegiate competitions, combined tests, horse trials, trek, and drill-rides is also available. Possible careers include equine insurance; pharmaceutical or equipment sales; design and/or construction of barns, courses, or facilities; equine massage; chiropractic; tourism; training; teaching; equine journalism; ownership/management of tack or feed stores; and racing, s

howing, boarding, or breeding stables. Incoming freshmen are required to take a riding test and will be placed, according to their experience, into one of the Horsemastership courses. Students must attain a minimum GPA for 2.50 for all courses in the major or minor. In addition, equestrian majors must pass a departmental exit exam in order to graduate.

Over the weekend, Averett University Equestrian hosted the first session of the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) L Program Judges Training Seminar! Our students were able to audit both days and even provide demo rides on Sunday.

A huge thank you goes out to our event sponsors and the North Carolina Dressage and Combined Training Association (NCDCTA) for making the first weekend a success! The second and third sessions will take place in the spring semester and we are looking forward to it!
