This week on “Meet the Horse Monday” is another one of our relatively new guys, Flash!

Before coming to Averett, this 14-year-old Dutch Harness horse competed through 2nd level while schooling 3rd and 4th level movements as well as evented all the way to Training level!

Now, Flash is mainly used in our Horsemastership I-IV classes as well as a mount for IHSA and IDA shows!

Here is what sophomore, Abigail Sander has to say about him:

“Flash is one of my favorite horses at the barn. I hadn't rode him much before this previous semester, but he has grown to be one of my favorite rides. I have grown as a rider learning with him as he has taught me a lot on what things I need to do better. I have become significantly more confident in riding by working with him. He is such a fun ride with an amazing personality- just a goofy boy who never fails to make me laugh. He has helped me work on my balance and positional flaws as they are prominent when riding him. So, in more ways than one he has taught me and helped me grow while being a constant sense of calm for me. Flash will forever be one of my favorite horses 💕!”

🔹Registered Name is “Photographic”
🔸Born April, 2010
🔹Height: 18 hands!

Next up on Meet the Horse Monday…Amico!

This 2005 Dutch Warmblood was imported from the Netherlands back in 2017. In Europe, he showed competitively equivalent to Fourth Level and schooling PSG movements. Through his time at Averett, he has become a favorite for many of our students as a comp horse and mount for IDA shows!

In past semesters, Amico has been an assigned comp horse to senior, Elyse Keeney! Here is what she has to say about him:

“Amico is the one horse that I will forever remember from Averett. When I first got him as my comp horse I knew nothing about him, especially how to ride him effectively. As an upper level school master, he had done and seen way more than I ever had and required a more refined, strong, and supple rider than I was at the time. But, as we worked together he’s the horse that taught me all of that. Every lesson, every ride, every competition, he taught me something new that I would take with me onto every other horse I rode, and my riding improved exponentially in the year that I was lucky to have him as my comp horse. He helped me ride at a new level, helped my confidence and effectiveness, and still nickers when I walk down the barn aisle. He’s truly a one of a kind horse and I cherish every ride with him. You’re the best Meebs 💙”

🔹Sire: Flemmingh
🔸Dam: Friegonda
🔹Height: 17.1

We are so lucky and grateful to have Amico here with us at Averett University!
