CBS Sports Network to televise special coverage of 2012 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships
Exclusive coverage from the 2012 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships, held in Gulf Shores, AL, and hosted by the Gulf Coast Volleyball Region will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. Tonight, Wednesday, June 6, the first hour of a two-part television special will air on CBSSN at 8 PM CST.
While drawing from action taking place across the entire weekend of competition including the Gulf Coast Region Junior Beach Clinics, Gulf Coast Region Junior Beach Series Tournament and the USA Volleyball Junior Beach HP Tryouts, the show will prominently feature the semifinals of the Pairs Championship between Florida State and Long Beach State.
The second hour of the special will be broadcast the following week, airing on Wednesday, June 13 at 8 PM CST and will highlight the final match of the Pairs tournament, a three-set thriller between Long Beach State and Pepperdine.
The televised specials will feature match footage, as well as exclusive player interviews, expert analysis, sideline reporting and the Volleyball Festival atmosphere created by the "Hangout" and the Gulf Coast Volleyball Region of USA Volleyball. These special broadcasts will pull you into the spirit of these inaugural collegiate sand volleyball championships by showcasing the players, coaches, fans, junior events and beautiful setting in Gulf Shores, AL that combined to make the event such a remarkable success.
The championship event spanned three days and featured top competitors from programs that participated in the first season of collegiate sand volleyball. The Pairs Championship featured the top 16 doubles teams competing over the course of two days. The Team Championship was a four-team double elimination slugfest that kept the crowd entertained with five matches played simultaneously.
Pepperdine, Long Beach State University, Florida State University, the College of Charleston, the University of Southern California, the University of Hawai’i, Florida Atlantic University, UAB, the University of North Florida and Stetson University all had participants in the competition.
